Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

Our beautiful mid-winter weather makes it seem like the perfect time for the Yuma Art Center to present their annual Art in the Park event this coming Saturday, January 13th.  Art in the Park is an ‘al fresco’ Fine Arts Festival that will take place in Yuma’s scenic Gateway Park adjacent to Historic Downtown  from noon to 5PM Saturday.  The festival will feature a number of local and regional artists who will be displaying their diverse artworks in the park alongside the banks of the meandering Colorado River.  You can enjoy a leisurely afternoon in the park, partake in a mimosa or glass of wine if you’re so inclined, and chat with the artists while you appreciate their artistic creations.  Don’t miss it!

THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING:

Miraflores 2015 Viognier (El Dorado County)    $21.99 This opens with scents of peach and pear fruit, mixing with hints of orange blossom. The enticing aromas introduce a similar flavor profile, enhanced with a silky texture and a mouthwatering lime-zest quality. It superbly melds lush fruit with light floral tones to create a distinctively crisp and refreshing white.

Storypoint 2015 California Pinot Noir     $14.99 A deep garnet color in the glass, this offers aromas of flowers and strawberries.  The flavor profile offers cherries, strawberries and spices plus a pleasant hint of cedar.  Smooth and well-balanced tannins carry this to a silky, long and very satisfying finish.

Doña Paula 2016 Los Cardos Malbec (Mendoza, Argentina)    $11.99 This hand-harvested Malbec from the Mendoza Province of Argentina is dark and sultry, with savory aromas of herbs and fresh blackberries.  The palate has plenty of ripe and juicy dark fruit flavors on a firm tannic frame.

Terra d’Oro 2014 Barbera (Amador County)    $17.99 The Barbera grape, while native to northern Italy’s Piedmont region, thrives in Amador County. This is a fruity and medium-bodied red with the classic Barbera character of ripe black cherries, blackberries and currants, edged with a pleasant touch of savory spice.

Villa Antinori 2013 Toscana Rosso (Tuscany, Italy)    $19.99 Villa Antinori is a Tuscan blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah crafted by the renowned Piero Antinori. The wine’s bouquet offers scents of sweet fruit and a hint of spicy oak.  Black cherry and cassis fruit dominates the palate, with a touch of dark chocolate.

K Vintners 2014 Motor City Kitty Syrah (Yakima Valley)    $32.99 This is a vibrant Syrah, overflowing with ripe black fruit on the nose, followed up by notes of spice and oak.  Dense fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries and stewed plums are tinged with accents of mocha, expresso and cinnamon that come to a lush and lasting finish.

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:

Grgich Hills 2013 Estate Merlot (Napa Valley)    $39.99 This is nicely aromatic and expressive on the nose with blackberry jam, fresh roast coffee, dark chocolate, raspberry, fennel, subtle cigar box and a hint of pepper.  It’s rich and full-bodied in the glass, offering blackberry preserve, black cherry, black currants, spice box and cracked pepper flavors.

Bogle Vineyards 2016 Phantom Chardonnay (Clarksburg)    $16.99 This Chardonnay entices with its rich layers. Green apple and pear aromas transform into spicy flavors of fresh baked apple pie, and barrel fermentation imparts a creamy and luscious mouthfeel. French oak aging adds notes of vanilla and melted caramel.

Bodegas Salentein 2015 Reserve Malbec (Uco Valley, Argentina)    $19.99 A very aromatic, floral and fruit-driven Malbec.  The palate is silky, with a satisfying texture and sweet round tannins carrying its concentrated raspberry, blueberry and violet flavors.  A long, flavorful finish builds on that compelling interplay of fruit and floral tones.

Du Bocq Saison 1858 (Belgium)   $10.99 Founded in 1858, DuBocq Brewery is still family-owned, and they have made traditional Belgian ales in the same brewery location ever since. This is a traditionally brewed Saison ale with a hazy golden color, aromatic herbal hop aroma and a crisply refreshing palate.

Cheers!
