Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

Christmas is just about here, but there’s still time!  The Wine Cellar will be open all day Monday the 22nd through Wednesday (Christmas Eve), so if you need to tie up any loose ends with regard to your Christmas shopping be sure to stop by.  And of course we’ll be doing our usual weekly wine tasting all this week (excepting Thursday of course).  But just in case you can’t make it down to the Cellar, let me take this opportunity to wish all of our great customers here in Yuma a very Merry Christmas!

THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING:

Kettmeir 2013 Pinot Grigio (Alto Adige-Südtirol, Italy)    $15.99
This crisp, refreshing Pinot Grigio owes its character to the cooler, high-altitude vineyards of northern Italy’s Alto Adige province.  Fermented and aged only in stainless steel, it offers exotic floral and citrus scents that lead on to a delicious mouthful of green apple and pear fruit.

Kenwood 2012 Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley)    $17.99
Russian River Valley soils combine with the nearby Pacific Ocean’s foggy influence to create ideal conditions for growing great Pinot Noir.  Aromas of raspberry and black cherry mingle with spicy hints of cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla.  The palate exhibits bright acidity, with a smooth texture and a lingering finish.

Antigal 2006 Aduentus (Mendoza, Argentina)    $12.99
The Aduentus is a stellar example of the classic art of wine blending, but with an Argentinean twist.  Each sip of this rich, complex wine reveals an intriguing new flavor.  Black figs, raspberries and ripe boysenberry along with hints of pepper, vanilla and caramel integrate beautifully with an underlay of savory toasted oak.

Peachy Canyon 2011 Westside Zinfandel (Paso Robles)    $17.99
This deep purple powerhouse opens with dark chocolate, raspberries and cedar on the nose, and raspberry, toffee and clove on the palate.  With time, accents of white pepper, vanilla and a touch of smoky oak emerge.  Fresh acidity enlivens the finish.

Numanthia 2011 Termes (Toro, Spain)    $26.99
Vibrant and fruity, Termes stands out for its lively character that perfectly expresses the Toro region of Spain.  Extended maceration of the grapes and regular racking during 16 months of aging in French oak gives the wine a lively mix of fruit and structure, enlivened by rich, savory accents of cedar and spice.

Pine Ridge 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)    $39.99
A richly layered, powerful yet supremely elegant Napa Cabernet.  This has rich aromas and lush flavors of cassis, black cherries and anise, beautifully accented by notes of dried herb, olive and mineral that give depth to its smooth and seamless texture.

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:

Gauchezco 2010 Malbec Reserva (Mendoza, Argentina)    $17.99
This inky purple Malbec exudes a bouquet of dark fruits, coffee and freshly-tilled earth.  On the palate, flavors of ripe black cherries, blackberries and cassis mingle with smoke, black pepper and light vanilla tones.  It’s an elegant, balanced red with a silky texture.

Charles Krug 2013 Sauvignon Blanc (Napa Valley)    $15.99
This is a bright, lively Sauvignon Blanc with an enticing mix of fresh grapefruit, kiwi, lime and fresh-cut grass aromas.  The palate is tangy and balanced, with flavors of ripe orchard fruits and citrus that stay nicely focused through a crisp finish.

Condado de Haza 2009 Tempranillo (Ribera del Duero)    $29.99
This Ribera del Duero opens with intense, lush scents of ripe raspberries and plums with floral tones.  The palate is plush and expansive, with spiced cherry and cassis flavors and bitter chocolate notes. Toasty vanilla and cracked pepper hints emerge, carrying to a long and gently tannic finish.

Cheers!
