Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

This Saturday, March 14th, Yuma Heritage Festivals presents the 9th Annual Music on Main in Historic Downtown, right here on the Main Street Plaza. The music starts at 4PM and goes until 11PM, with live performances by Maple Street, Safety Orange, FeroMona, Risque Band and the Yuma United Firefighters Pipes & Drums. As usual, there will be lots of vendors and a variety of food and drink options available (not to mention the great dining & drinking establishments we have downtown!) This is always a fun Saturday evening’s entertainment, and a great way to enjoy our beautiful spring weather. Hope you can make it!

THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING:

Jadix 2018 Picpoul de Pinet (Languedoc, France)   $14.99 This wine, made from the Picpoul grape varietal native to the south of France, exhibits a yellow color with shimmering flashes. An intense nose offers scents of ripe fruit, citrus peel, honey and white flowers. It has a rich yet lively feel in the mouth, with a wonderful freshness that holds through the crisp finish.

Maison de Grand Esprit 2017 L’être Magique Rosé (Côtes de Provence, France)   $15.99 Crisp and elegant, this Provence rosé will transport you to a sun-drenched afternoon in the south of France. It’s fresh and breezy, with citrus-driven aromas and mouthwatering flavors of strawberries and watermelon. The brisk finish gives a pleasant touch of salinity plus a hint of white pepper.

Torres 2015 Crianza Altos Ibéricos (Rioja, Spain)   $14.99 Torres’ Altos Ibéricos Crianza is ruby red, with a garnet edge. The nose is redolent of ripe dark fruit plus hints of spice and leather. On the palate, cherry and brambly berry fruit is edged with complex spice and oak accents.

Bodegas Garzón 2017 Tannat Reserva (Punta del Este, Uruguay)   $17.99 For textbook modern Uruguayan Tannat, look no further. A ripe dark fruit aroma melds with flowers, while this is smooth and balanced on the palate. Blackberry and spicy plum flavors are lightly touched by oak and peppery spices, with a fine lingering finish that brings it all home.

  1. Lohr 2016 Tower Road Petite Sirah (Paso Robles)   $22.99 Vivid, pure blackberry-raspberry-blueberry flavors are terrifically ripe, juicy and deeply concentrated. Full-bodied tannins manage to stay in the background to let a delicious core of dark fruit flavors swirl on the palate. Peppery accents enliven a lasting finish.

San Felice 2016 Il Grigio Chianti Classico Riserva (Tuscany, Italy)   $27.99 San Felice’s Il Grigio has richness, complexity and elegance that few Chiantis can rival. The nose exudes aromas of sweet ripe cherry fruit plus complex hints of violets, spices and dark chocolate. The palate is plush and silky yet well structured, with generous flavors of dark cherry and plum and a touch of sweet licorice.

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:

Daou Vineyards 2018 Pinot Noir (Central Coast)   $24.99 This Pinot Noir exudes lovely black cherry, strawberry and floral aromas. It’s rich and full in the mouth with a mixture of dark fruit and exotic spices. The result is an elegant, complex wine with well integrated tannins and a lasting, cherry-and-spice-filled finish.

Trivento 2017 Maximum Red (Mendoza, Argentina)   $9.99 Aromas of spices, oak and berries lead to a richly saturated palate. An Argentinean blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, this wine tastes of cassis, black plum and blackberry. On the finish the rich fruit comes to a long and pleasantly chewy ending.

Folie à Deux 2017 Merlot (Alexander Valley)   $17.99 Sourced from premium vineyard sites in the cooler areas of Sonoma’s Alexander Valley and aged for 10 months in French oak, this soft and approachable Merlot displays rich, ripe dark cherry and wild berry flavors with enticing hints of vanilla and chocolate.

Modern Times Brewing Orderville Hazy IPA (San Diego)   $4.99 This deeply juicy stunner is brewed using Mosaic, Equanot, Denali, Nugget, Simcoe & Eureka hops.  The result is a blast-wave of upfront pineapple, mango and grapefruit over a restrained malty core, wrapping up with a crisp finish that will leave you with an overwhelming desire for another sip…

Cheers!
