Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

This Saturday, March 26th, Yuma Heritage Festivals presents the 5th Annual Music on Main festival.  The music starts at 9AM and goes all day until 11PM, with performances by renowned local bands Tommy & The Drifters, Checkr’d Past, Tanner Gomes Band, DJ Money and others. There will be lots of vendors and a variety of food and drink options available on the Main Street Plaza (not to mention of course all the great dining & drinking establishments downtown!)

…and just in case you needed any more reason to head this way Saturday, the Old Town Wine Cellar will present another of our Saturday Afternoon Beer Tastings.  Come sample six of the great new craft and import beers we’ve brought in recently for just $5, and then go enjoy some live music and spring sunshine here in Historic Downtown.  We hope to see you!

THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING):

Schloss Vollrads 2010 Riesling Spatlese (Rheingau, Germany)    $21.99
A deliciously opulent and concentrated Spatlese, this overflows with pure, ripe mango, passion fruit and pear aromas on the nose, with a similar fruit-basket of flavors melding on a creamy palate.  There’s plenty of acidity to support all of the lush fruit, and a keen mineral edge.

Davis Bynum 2012 Jane’s Vineyard Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley)    $32.99
Davis Bynum was the first winery to produce a single-vineyard Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, way back in 1973.  The Jane’s Vineyard 2012 offers a fragrance of mint and savory red fruit, with hints of earth and black tea.  On the palate, smooth tannins underlie a juicy zing of acidity and elegant dark fruit flavors.

Cryptic 2012 California Red    $14.99
The Cryptic Red is a regional blend of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes sourced from select vineyards in Amador County, Lodi and Paso Robles.  It’s supple and seductive, with ripe berry and dark cherry flavors plus notes of toasted hazelnuts and vanilla.

Empordàlia 2012 Balmeta (Empordà, Spain)    $18.99
Balmeta is 100% Garnacha, the traditional grape of northern Spain’s Empordà region. The wine offers intense aromas of strawberries, cherries and blackberries, with a touch of spice.  In the mouth it’s fresh and savory, with bright fruit and spicy hints of mint and licorice.

Graffigna 2011 Grand Reserve Malbec (Pedernal Valley, Argentina)    $22.99
Graffigna is regarded as one of Argentina’s foremost producers of Malbec, that nation’s signature wine varietal.  Their Grand Reserve bottling offers bold blackberry and dark plum fruit aromas and follows up with a vivid mouthful of ripe black fruit, with accent of violets and cedar.

Beaulieu Vineyard 2013 Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)    $27.99
This Napa Cabernet offers deep and fully ripe blackberry, cassis and black cherry aromas and flavors, edged by hints of violet, tobacco and old leather.  The wine expands across the palate in broad, rich flavors, with a firm structure of polished tannins. Hints of spice and cedar linger on the finish.

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:

Domaine Serene 2012 Yamhill Cuvée Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley)    $49.99
Domaine Serene’s Yamhill Cuvée is a deep garnet in the glass. The nose offers fresh red berry and pepper-spice aromas, with a floral nuance giving complexity. It’s rich and focused on the palate, with juicy red currant and dark cherry fruit and a touch of bitter chocolate.  Spice notes enliven a long, elegant finish.

Reuscher-Haart 2013 Piesporter Riesling (Mosel Valley, Germany)    $19.99
This Piesporter opens with lush aromas of limes, apples, peaches and pineapples, followed by deep flavors of ripe tropical fruits, peaches and just a hint of honey. Refreshing acidity balances a fine, just ‘off-dry’ finish that lingers on the palate.

Twenty Rows 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)    $22.99
Twenty Rows Napa Cabernet is made with select grapes from Valley districts such as Mt Veeder, Oak Knoll and Coombsville. It’s an intense, deeply colored wine with concentrated aromas and flavors.  Entirely approachable now, the wine is loaded with black cherry and black currant fruit, accented by notes of cedar and espresso.

Qupé 2014 Modern White (Central Coast)    $17.99
Qupé’s Modern White is a newly released blend of Chardonnay, Viognier and Marsanne.  The wine is 100% barrel fermented to add complexity and richness, but only neutral oak is used in order to preserve the wine’s freshness and purity.  It offers a delicious mix of fruit and floral accents, with a hint of sweetness framing a crisply refreshing finish.

Ommegang Hennepin Farmhouse Ale (Cooperstown, New York)    $9.99
This hoppy, farmhouse style ale has an almost champagne-like effervescence and a delicious ‘light-on-the-tongue’ finish. Much like a Belgian Saison, Hennepin works very well as an aperitif.  Brewed with coriander, orange peel, ginger and grains of paradise, it shows fine balance and a highly refreshing character.

Cheers!
