03/28/2016 Newsletter
Greetings from the Wine Cellar:
I want to alert everyone to a temporary change in business hours here at the Old Town Wine Cellar that will be in effect next week only, from Tuesday, March 29th through Friday, April 1st. The Wine Cellar will be open from 1 PM to 7 PM, rather than the normal 11 AM to 7 PM schedule. The following week we’ll get back to our standard business hours. We’re sorry for any inconvenience to our valued customers, but the important thing is our daily wine tastings will continue uninterrupted!
THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING):
Qupé 2014 Modern White (Central Coast) $17.99
Qupé’s Modern White is a newly released blend of Chardonnay, Viognier and Marsanne. The wine is 100% barrel fermented to add complexity and richness, but only neutral oak is used in order to preserve the wine’s freshness and purity. It offers a delicious mix of fruit and floral accents, with a hint of sweetness framing a crisply refreshing finish.
Acacia 2013 California Pinot Noir $14.99
This Pinot Noir opens with delicate aromas of violets, spices and dark cherries, with a light hint of vanilla. The palate offers juicy dark fruit flavors of ripe plum and back cherry. Firm tannins frame an elegant finish full of dark fruit and spice, with a pleasantly light touch of oak.
Santo Tomás 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon (Baja California, Mexico) $17.99
This Baja Cabernet is a bright, medium-bodied red with a nose of fresh red fruits and savory spice notes. The palate offers a nice mix of black cherry and wild berry fruit, with light tannins and good acidity.
Valley of the Moon 2011 Orbiter Red (Sonoma County) $15.99
The Orbiter combines Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Syrah to make a wine with ripe, plush fruit and supple tannins. Aromas of raspberry and plum swirl amid savory spice notes. Ripe blackberry and black cherry fruit flavors blend beautifully in a polished, long and satisfying finish.
Allegrini 2010 Palazzo Della Torre (Veneto, Italy) $19.99
This savory northern Italian red is crafted in an innovative fashion, with a portion of the grapes dried for 3 months prior to pressing. The result is a sort of “baby Amarone” that offers a silky texture and a complex, refined palate. A bouquet of floral tones, vanilla and black fruits is followed on the palate by juicy dark cherry and plum fruit, plus complex spice tones.
Buena Vista 2012 Legendary Badge (Sonoma County) $26.99
The Legendary Badge is a bold blend of Petite Sirah, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvedre, Merlot and Grenache. Juicy red cherry and berry fruit flavors dominate the palate and integrated tannins give it a solid structure and deliver a vigorous, yet soft and pleasing mouthfeel.
NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:
Twenty Rows 2012 Merlot (Napa Valley) $22.99
This is an elegant, balanced Napa Merlot, made with fruit sourced from prime Valley vineyards. It opens with a rich bouquet of black cherries, plus a note of vanilla from oak barrel aging. A vibrant fruit character of black cherry and wild berry fruit flavors is framed by smooth and supple tannins.
Heinz Eifel 2012 Riesling Auslese (Mosel Valley, Germany) $14.99
The Heinz Eifel Auslese is made from very ripe, hand-selected Riesling grapes that are picked in late fall. The wine is hedonistically rich and full, with luscious flavors of honey, peach, apricots, almonds, citrus, and mango. It’s a classic match with spicy Asian cuisines.
Run Riot 2014 Pinot Noir (Central Coast) $17.99
The grapes for Run Riot Pinot come from premium vineyards in Arroyo Seco, Santa Maria Valley, San Luis Obispo County and Santa Barbara County. The combination of fruit from such diverse locales on the Central Coast creates a wine with a savory dark fruit and spice character and a soft, silky mouthfeel.
Boulevard Brewing Long Strange Tripel (Kansas City, Missouri) $9.99
Crafted in the style of the classic Belgian “tripel” ales, this is a golden-amber hued, full-bodied beer with a rich and intensely fruit-filled, aromatic nose of banana and clove, a prominent sweet malt flavor that contains hints of toffee, a slightly citrusy hoppy-ness and a pleasantly bitter finish.
Cheers!
