Greetings from the Wine Cellar:
Hope everyone day a great Mother’s Day weekend and was able to enjoy quality time with family and friends. This week our featured wines offer up some Italian varietals you may not have tried before so buckle up as we embark on a brief tour of Italia.

FEATURED WINES THIS WEEK

Cantine Povero 2021 Roero Arneis (Piedmont, Italy) $17.99

Arneis is an elegant grape varietal native to north Italy’s Piedmont region. It makes a refreshingly dry, crisp and slightly floral white with bright flavors of pears apricots and citrus. It finishes bracingly clean and dry, exhibiting a tangy mineral undertone.

Vigneti del Salento 2020 I Muri Primitivo (Puglia, Italy) $16.99

This Puglian Primitivo offers an array of spicy black and red fruit aromas with light herbal
notes. The tannins are gentle, balancing the ripe richness of the fruit with a touch of freshly roasted coffee, ending with a hint of licorice on the finish.

Mazzei 2020 Poggio Badiola (Chianti, Italy) $20.99

This Tuscan wine comes from vineyards located at a great altitude in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, around a Romanesque church dating back to the 10th century. It uniquely combines the freshness and elegance of Sangiovese (70%) with the soft structure of Merlot (30%). This wine is elegant with fresh red berry flavors, a velvety mouthfeel and supple. Food pairing: Cold cuts, pasta with meat/game sauce, pizza, big grilled fish, pot roast.

Sbirolo Langhe 2021 Nebbiolo, Marchesi di Barolo (Barolo, Italy) $22.99

A straightforward expression of Piedmont’s noble grape, the shows a lean garnet color with medium intensity. The fragrance combines the fruity aromas of raspberries to those ethereal and spicy of violet and vanilla. Raw notes of cherry and bitter almond appear before it hits a punchy, short-lived finish. This wine is dry, balanced with fine and elegant tannins. Ideal companion for typical Langhe appetizers, pastas, roasted or stewed meats and medium-aged cheeses.

Michele Chiarlo 2019 Nizza Cipressi (Piemonte, Italy) $28.99

This wine is a generous and abundant expression of Barbera with an inky dark color. The bouquet reveals blackberry, black currant and lots of rich primary fruit. The wine’s texture is soft and plush, and you get that little kick of acidity that is characteristic of this versatile grape. Bright acidity and minimal tannin. This is very much in-your-face, but it’s not aggressive. Pair with cured meats, pasta with meat sauce, steak, risotto.

MollyDooker 2021 Two Left Feet (South Australia) $29.99

Two Left Feet is what can happen when you dance after a glass or two of Mollydooker.
This seamless blend of Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet created an enticing wine that exceeds all expectations. Ripe fruits of dark cherry, blackberry, plum and raspberry are complimented by the secondary notes of vanilla and mixed spices. The silky, satin like fruit profile, encompassed by lovely ripe tannins, cascades effortlessly through the palate providing fantastic depth and WOW factor. Give it the “MollyDooker Shake” before opening.

Caymus Suisun 2021 The Walking Fool Red Wine Blend (Suisun Valley, California) $35.99

This new red wine blend is produced from Suisun Valley, a remarkable AVA that has become the Wagner family’s second home. Like its close neighbor Napa Valley, Suisun Valley has ideal soils and climate for a variety of grapes. The Walking Fool is named after a long-ago relative who was often seen traveling by foot – thus earning this affectionate moniker. Featuring Zinfandel and Petite Sirah, this wine is smooth and lively, with juicy raspberry, notes of espresso and softly fine tannins.

Alesmith/Telluride Brewing Co. West Peak IPA $4.99

West Peak IPA is collaboration between AleSmith and Telluride and is bursting with flavor from the first sip. Bold and juicy with citrusy aromas of pine and tropical fruit that balance out the flavor profile. A mild bitterness provides the perfect base for its intense hoppy notes. For those who love IPAs, West Peak will not disappoint it’s packed with intense hop flavors that any hophead can appreciate!
