Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

As a number of my customers are no doubt already aware, I was “Missing in Action” for all of last week.  But I’m happy to report that I’m back to work this week, and fully ready to go with another of our great wine tasting lineups here at the Wine Cellar.  I want to thank everyone who called or texted to wish me a speedy recovery, I really appreciated the sentiment. And as the classic toast goes, “Here’s to your health.”  I’ll drink to that!

THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING:

Bottega Vinaia 2015 Pinot Grigio (Trentino, Italy)    $17.99
This begins with bright aromas of orchard fruits like apple and pear, along with floral tones and a hint of orange peel.  The palate shows an intensity and persistence that’s rarely found in Pinot Grigio.  It’s fresh, dry and flavorful, with a crisp, refreshing finish.

J Lohr 2014 Falcon’s Perch Pinot Noir (Monterey County)    $16.99
Falcon’s Perch is a blend of 76% Pinot Noir and 24% Valdiguié. The nose offers aromas of dark berries, rose petals and exotic spices.  It’s delicious and seductive, with dark cherry and berry flavors plus complimentary notes of spice, anise and oak toast.

Bodegas Castaño 2012 Solanera Viña Viejas (Yecla, Spain)    $14.99
The Solanera is a blend of 70% Mourvedre, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Grenache from very old, low-yielding vines. The wine was aged for ten months in a combination of French and American oak.  It’s rich and ripe, reflecting a classic Mediterranean character.

Villa Antinori 2012 Toscana Rosso (Tuscany, Italy)    $19.99
Villa Antinori is a Tuscan blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah crafted by the renowned Piero Antinori. The wine’s bouquet offers scents of sweet fruit and a hint of spicy oak.  Black cherry and cassis fruit dominates the palate, with a touch of dark chocolate.

Benziger 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon (Sonoma County)    $18.99
Softly textured, rich in flavor and moderate in tannins, this is a supple and full-bodied Cabernet with generous flavors of berries, cedar, green olives and dark chocolate. A light degree of toast from oak aging gives additional complexity to a polished finish.

Trivento 2012 Golden Reserve Malbec (Mendoza, Argentina)    $24.99
Trivento’s Golden Reserve offers rich aromas of black cherry, blackberry, black olives, violets and fennel.  The palate is smooth and plush, with vivid layers of cherry, fig and raspberry fruit followed by cocoa, cedar and licorice notes on a muscular finish.

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:

Jack’s House 2013 California Cabernet Sauvignon    $14.99
Jack’s House 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is full-bodied and elegant, with scents of black currants and dark cherries accented by hints of dark chocolate and vanilla. Alluring flavors of ripe blackberries and blueberries create a lush mid-palate, coming to a rich, savory finish.

Rotari 2013 Brut Blanc de Blancs (Trentino, Italy)    $17.99
From the Dolomite Mountains of Northern Italy, this a clean, crisp and richly flavored sparkling wine. Apple and pleasant toasty aromas lead to a tingling palate of golden apple, pear and floral flavors that are fully dry, and supported by a fresh, zesty acidity.

Green Flash Cosmic Ristretto Baltic Porter (San Diego)    $7.99
Appearance — black, with bruléed edges and a mocha beer foam; Aroma — espresso roast with hints of sweet chocolate malts; Flavor — a smooth espresso roast and drying chocolate  malt character provide an easy drinking quality. This bold, complex, java-centric Baltic Porter is an eye-opening blast – just like a nice ristretto from Starbuck’s!

Cheers!
