Greetings from the Wine Cellar:
This weekend, Friday thru Sunday August 15-17th, brings the Let’s Dance, Yuma! Dance Festival to Historic Downtown Yuma. This unique festival is designed in two parts: to provide Yumans with an enriching dance experience, and to reinvest directly into local dance organizations. Throughout the weekend dancers (ages 11+) can register to participate in variety of classes taught by regional dance professionals and then perform on stage in the Historic Yuma Theatre in a culminating showcase. The classes include African, hip hop, yoga, aerial arts, musical theatre and more. Visit YumaArtCenter.com to download the festival brochure.
The Festival Showcase on Sunday, August 18th at 3:00 PM is a celebration of Yuma’s dynamic dance community, featuring performances by festival participants as well as local dance companies. Tickets are $5 general admission, available at the Yuma Art Center box office and YumaShowTickets.com. This weekend come see what Yuma’s dance community has to offer!
THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING:
Quinta da Aveleda 2017 Vinho Verde (Portugal) $10.99 Portugal’s famous ‘green wine’ is made from the native varietals Loureiro and Alvarinho. This wine has crisp, refreshing flavors of starfruit, Fuji apple and lime, with bracing acidity and a wonderful touch of tingling effervescense. It’s a super summer refresher – served ice cold!
Mer Soleil 2016 Pinot Noir (Santa Lucia Highlands) $29.99 This Pinot exudes black cherry, strawberry and floral aromas on the nose. It’s rich and full on the palate, with notes of light oak, anise and baking spices. The result is an elegant and complex wine with finely integrated tannins, fresh acidity and a long, cherry-and-spice-laden finish.
Celler de Capçanes 2014 Mas Donís Old Vines (Montsant, Spain) $14.99 Mas Donis is a blend of 85% Garnacha and 15% Syrah, aged for nine months in French and American oak. The Garnacha is sourced from 70-year-old vines. Vibrant cherry and dark berry flavors are edged by vanilla and spice, along with subtle elements of herbs and toasty oak.
Jamieson Ranch Vineyards 2016 Whiplash Red (California) $14.99 The Whiplash is a fruit-forward red with rich dark cherry, fig and mixed berry-pie flavors, plus hints of baking spice and butterscotch. It’s medium in body, with good lift and juicy tannins that will leave you wanting another sip. A hint of sweet oak enlivens the finish.
Allegrini 2014 Palazzo Della Torre (Veneto, Italy) $19.99 This savory northern Italian red is crafted in an innovative fashion, with some of the grapes dried prior to being crushed. The result, similar in style to Amarone, is a wine with a full, rich and complex character. A bouquet of floral notes, vanilla and black fruits is followed by ripe black cherry and plum fruit flavors, edged by subtle spice accents.
Dashe 2014 Zinfandel (Dry Creek Valley) $22.99 Dashe Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel has all the varietal’s typical raspberry and black cherry fruit, earthy and spicy/peppery tones, and a character that begs for meals cooked outside on the grill. It’s a fresh and delicious example of a true California classic.
