THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING:
Bolla 2011 Soave Classico (Veneto, Italy) $11.99
This is made with 100% Garganega grapes sourced from the heart of the Soave Classico region, from hillside vineyards that are 25 to 30 years old. It’s a wonderfully crisp and clean white with an intense bouquet of pear fruit and wild flowers. The palate offers juicy apricot and peach fruit flavors, with accents of citrus and acacia honey.
Meiomi 2013 Pinot Noir (California) $19.99
This Pinot Noir is sourced from California’s finest growing regions for the varietal, a blend of fruit from premium Sonoma County, Santa Barbara County and Monterey County vineyards. The result is a lusciously rich, fruity and surprisingly complex Pinot at a great price.
Graffigna 2012 Elevation Red (Pedernal Valley, Argentina) $12.99
The Elevation Red is a beautifully balanced Argentinean blend of Bonarda, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Syrah and Tannat grapes. The nose is full of rich berry fruit plus a spicy touch of toast. The palate offers ripe dark berry fruit and fresh red fruit acidity, with well-integrated tannins.
Santo Tomás 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon (Guadelupe Valley, Mexico) $17.99
This Baja Cabernet is a bright, medium-bodied red with a nose of fresh red fruits and savory spice notes. The palate offers a nice mix of black cherry and wild berry fruit, with light tannins and good acidity.
Vigna delle Monache 2006 Salice Salentino Riserva (Puglia, Italy) $22.99
The baking hot sun of the Italian south, the ‘heel’ of Italy, comes through in this rich and rustic dry red, with its smoky nose and robust palate of stewed dark plums, figs and spice. The Salice Salentino is a traditional Puglian red, vinted from the native Negroamaro varietal.
Fogdog 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) $29.99
Fogdog is the second label of premier Napa Valley winery Joseph Phelps. This Cabernet is made with grapes that didn’t quite make the cut for Phelps’ esteemed Estate Cabernet and Insignia bottlings. It’s a delicious Cabernet in its own right that’s crafted for immediate enjoyment.
NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:
Polifemo 2008 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo (Abruzzi, Italy) $39.99
This Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is an intense ruby red in the glass, with a rich bouquet of blackberries and flowers. The flavors are lavish and offer fine depth; a mix of dark cherries and plums with elements of rhubarb, cocoa and coffee. The mouthfeel is velvet soft, with mellow tannins.
Meiomi 2013 California Chardonnay $19.99
Meiomi Chardonnay embodies the character and spirit of California’s most notable coastal wine regions. Unifying the unique terroir and qualities of Santa Barbara, Sonoma and Monterey, this offers an elegant balance of spice and fruit, richness and yet restraint.
Goose Ridge 2011 G3 Red Wine Blend (Columbia Valley) $14.99
Goose Ridge Estate is a family-owned and operated winery dedicated to producing handcrafted, limited production wines from only estate-grown fruit. The G3 Blend is a classic Bordeaux-style compilation of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot along with other red varietals.
Solis Negre 2013 Grenache-Carignan (Catalonia, Spain) $9.99
Solis Negre is an equal blend of Grenache and Carignan grapes from northern Spain. The nose exudes a mix of wild berries and ‘forest floor’, and a hint of black olives. It’s soft and easy on the palate, with a fine mix of fresh fruit and spices and no hard edges.
Cheers!
