Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

There’s not much to report this week as we seem to have finally reached the tipping point and are now on the brink of another beautiful Yuma Fall season.  It’s all the more reason to come down and take an early evening stroll around Historic Downtown – you can enjoy the pleasant weather, check out some of the new business establishments, and most importantly do some wine tasting at the Wine Cellar.  I do want to let everyone know that I have to make a quick run up to Phoenix this Friday morning, October 3rd, so the Wine Cellar won’t be opening for business that day until 3:00 PM.  But it will be wine tasting as usual the rest of Friday afternoon and evening, so I hope we’ll be seeing you!

THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING:

Austin Hope Cellars 2013 Treana White (Central Coast)    $17.99
Always among the finest Rhone-style white wines that California has to offer, the 2013 Treana is superbly rich and expressive, yet the intense and almost honeyed flavors of apricot, peach and almond are reined in by a crisp, refreshing acidity that keeps it light and elegant.

Carpe Diem 2009 Pinot Noir (Edna Valley)    $24.99
The grapes for the ’09 Carpe Diem Pinot come from Firepeak vineyard in Edna Valley, just four miles from the Pacific Ocean.  The cool coastal climate allows a long, mild growing season.  The wine displays an intense ruby color and an exotic nose of red cherry, currant and vanilla.  Rich dark fruit flavors are balanced by finely structured tannins.

Celler de Capçanes 2011 Mas Picosa (Montsant, Spain)    $12.99
Mas Picosa is a blend of organically grown old vine Garnacha (70%) and Syrah (30%).  It shows beautifully concentrated dark fruit flavors of ripe blackberry and black cherry.  Lush and velvety, the wine has a satisfying plummy richness and very smooth texture.

Goose Ridge 2011 G3 Red Blend (Columbia Valley)    $14.99
Goose Ridge Estate is a family-owned and operated winery dedicated to producing handcrafted, limited production wines from only estate-grown fruit.  The G3 Blend is a classic Bordeaux-style compilation of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, along with other red varietals.

Folie à Deux 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon (Alexander Valley)    $23.99
This Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is well-balanced and polished, featuring fragrant aromas of dark cherries, blackberries, currants and anise.  Rich, elegant flavors of ripe dark fruits and spice lead to a focused and finely crafted finish.

Avignonesi 2011 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano (Tuscany, Italy)    $29.99
This Vino Nobile opens with exotic aromas of ripe red fruits, Mediterranean shrubs and sweet spices, with a balsamic edge.  It’s full and opulent on the palate, with black cherry and plum fruit flavors, elegant balance and a lingering aftertaste of tobacco and spice.

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:

Amavi 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon (Walla Walla Valley)    $25.99
Amavi Cabernet offers high toned aromas of ripe dark fruits, wild berries, cedar and a hint of rose petal.  It’s full-bodied, with blackberry and cassis flavors accented with elements of chocolate, mocha, spice and a touch of oak.

Cascina del Monastero 2006 Langhe Rosso (Piedmont, Italy)    $19.99
A beautiful light garnet in color, the scents of ripe red cherries and cranberries awaken the senses with undertones of earth, smoke and spices lurking beneath the surface.  Firm but delicate tannins and a light body give this a  wine both fine structure and plenty of finesse.

Elena Walch 2013 Gewurztraminer (Alto Adige, Italy)    $22.99
This Gewurz offers an aromatic, ripe nose of lychee, pear, flowers and spice.  On the palate, it’s fleshy and mouthfilling, with juicy tropical fruit flavors edged by tangy hints of bitter grapefruit. A fine mineral edge and zesty acidity brings it to a refreshing finish.

Hacker-Pschorr Festbier (Bavaria, Germany)    $4.99
The Festbier is a Marzen-Oktoberfest lager style beer, specially brewed to celebrate the Oktoberfest holiday.  It pours a deep golden color, with malty-sweet aromas plus a note of toffee.  Rich toasted malt flavors and a touch of breadiness meld with a subtle, earthy hop character.

Cheers!
