Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

 

The Christmas Season kicks off right here in Downtown Yuma this Saturday evening, December 2nd from 6 to 10PM.  It’s the inaugural Christmas Lighting of Historic Main Street, featuring a whole lot of lights on wreaths, light poles and everywhere else they can string them, as well as the placement of the official Main Street Christmas Tree in front of the Yuma Art Center.  There will also be live musical entertainment and a car show featuring classics, hot rods, motorcycles, lowriders and more hosted by Together Car Club of Yuma.  And, to top it all off, FREE photos with Santa, hosted by Doten Photography.  So get in the holiday spirit this week and come on downtown Saturday and join in the fun.  Or come down even sooner and enjoy wine tasting at the Cellar!

 

THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING:

 

Morgan 2014 Double L Chardonnay (Santa Lucia Highlands)    $29.99 A classic Santa Lucia Highlands Chardonnay, Morgan’s Double L offers aromas of crème brûlée, Asian pear, hazelnut and ’Nilla wafer backed by notes of sweet spices and toasty oak.  Juicy pineapple, vanilla and lemon curd flavors are carried on a superbly rich creamy texture, supported by bright acidity.

 

Pali Wine Company 2013 Huntington Pinot Noir (Santa Barbara County)    $19.99 Huntington is crafted from premium Pinot Noir fruit sourced from vineyards throughout the Santa Barbara coastal region, and then carefully blended to create the best expression of the unique character of the area.  It was aged in French oak barrels (30% new) for 12 months.

 

Tie Dye Cellars 2013 Tie Dye Red (North Coast)    $11.99 Tie Dye Red offers seductive aromas of black currant, dark cherry, boysenberry, raspberry and blueberry along with cedar, caramel, cloves, cinnamon and a soupçon of roast coffee. In the mouth, pure ripe berry flavors spread across the palate.  Supple acidity melts into a silky mouthfeel while elegant spice accents give depth and complexity.

 

Piattelli 2015 Malbec (Mendoza, Argentina)    $14.99 This inky-purple Malbec exudes a bouquet f dark fruits, coffee and freshly-tilled earth. On the palate, flavors of ripe black cherries, blackberries and cassis mingle with smoke, black pepper and light vanilla tones. It’s an elegant, balanced red with a silky texture.

 

Valravn 2014 Old Vine Zinfandel (Sonoma County)    $19.99 Valravn Old Vine Sonoma Zin has layers of richness and complexity wrapped round a wild strawberry and raspberry core. The nose has alluring notes of espresso roast, violets and ripe dark fruits. It’s just as rich on the palate, offering flavors of raspberry and blackberry compote, along with notes of vanilla and licorice-laced black pepper.

 

Hess Collection 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon, Allomi Vineyard (Napa Valley)    $28.99 This mountain-grown Napa Cabernet opens with scents of ripe plum and currant, with exotic accents of licorice and cedar.  The flavors are vivid and pure, with juicy dark berry and plum fruit. Beautifully polished tannins carry it to a rich and lingering finish.

 

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:

 

Campo al Mare 2015 Bolgheri Rosso (Tuscany, Italy)    $29.99 This is made with grapes from estate vineyards located near the village of Bolgheri, near the Tuscan coastline. It’s a sleek, elegant ‘Bordeaux-style’ blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.  The nose exudes aromas of blackberries and currants, edged by tones of spices and flowers.  Superbly rich and smooth on the palate, with polished tannins.

 

Kistler 2015 Chardonnay Les Noisetiers (Sonoma Coast)    $59.99 The grapes for this wine were whole-cluster pressed and fermented in 30% new French oak with indigenous yeasts, then bottled unfined and unfiltered after ten months barrel aging.  Perfectly balanced, it’s packed with vivid white fruit flavors and threaded with a vibrant acidity that reverberates across the palate.

 

Ommegang 20th Anniversary Ale (Cooperstown, New York)    $24.99 This ale pours a deep mahogany color with a thick tan head.  Aromas of oak and bourbon upfront give way to subtle hints of toffee, caramel and chocolate.  The palate is mildly sweet, with notes of caramel and molasses mixing with notes of bourbon and oak.  The rich mouthfeel and full body resolve to a sweet finish that’s balanced nicely with a light astringency.
