Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

The downtown Yuma Community Farmers Market will be back in business next week!  As in years past, the market will be held every Tuesday from 9AM to 2PM here on the Main Street Plaza in Historic Downtown.  It’s a fundraising project of Crossroads Mission, with all of the proceeds from the space rentals being used to support programs for the homeless, needy and addicted of our community.  Look for a nice selection of local produce and an array of other interesting comestibles, and plenty of other items on sale at the various booths as well.  The market will start up next week on Tuesday, December 19th and will run all the way through Tuesday, March 27th of next year.  Just another great reason to come downtown!

Segura Viudas Gran Cuvée Reserva (Penedès, Spain)    $14.99 This Cava is primarily vinted from the Spain’s indigenous Macabeo and Parellada grapes, but had small additions of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir to provide greater richness, balance and complexity. Depth and structure is enhanced by aging on the lees for an extended period.

Château d’Aqueria 2016 Tavel Rosé (Tavel, France)    $19.99 Chateau d’Aqueria is the largest estate in Tavel, and has produced wine there since the 16th century.  A mix of Grenache, Clairette, Cinsault, Mourvedre, Syrah, Bourboulenc and Picpoul, this has an elegant, medium-bodied palate to go with savory flavors of framboise, black cherries and fresh herbs.

Altovinum Evodia 2014 Garnacha (Aragon, Spain)    $11.99 Spanish Garnacha (or Grenache) is usually peppery, zesty and loaded with fresh raspberry fruit.  This one exudes fresh aromas of black cherries and crushed raspberries. In the mouth, it’s soft and round, with ripe red raspberry and cherry fruit plus a light touch of toasty oak.

Hearst Ranch Winery 2015 Three Sisters Cuvée (Paso Robles)    $21.99 This Paso blend of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre offers plentiful aromas of strawberry and toffee, along with subtle floral and pepper-spice notes.  The flavor profile displays ripe dark cherry, strawberry and toasty vanilla flavors supported by refreshing acidity.

Campo al Mare 2015 Bolgheri Rosso (Tuscany, Italy)    $29.99 This is made with grapes from estate vineyards located near the village of Bolgheri on the Tuscan coastline. It’s a sleek and elegant ‘Bordeaux-style’ blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.  The nose exudes aromas of blackberries and currants, edged by tones of spices and flowers.  The palate is rich and smooth, with polished tannins.

Tyrrell’s 2014 Estate Shiraz (Hunter Valley, Australia)    $22.99 This Old Vine Shiraz offers intense aromas of rich dark berries and plums, layered with underlying notes of fragrant spice and dark chocolate. It’s rich and round on the palate, with plenty of bright, fresh berry fruit, finely balanced tannins and well-integrated oak.

Henkell Rosé Sparkling Wine (Germany / France)    $12.99 Classic salmon-pink in the glass, this dry rosé sparkler offers a delicious mix of red raspberry and strawberry fruit laced with tangy citrus accents. It’s perfect as an aperitif to begin a holiday feast, and yet still rich enough to serve with lighter cuisines.

Ommegang Winter Is Here Double White Ale (Cooperstown, New York)    $11.99 Winter is here. Fortify yourself with this Belgian-style double white ale that’s brewed with white pepper and sea salt.  On the nose, hints of bready malts, cloves, honey and banana mingle. The palate shows a light hint of pepper spice upfront, and finishes with just a slight touch of honeyed sweetness.
