Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

Bringing great food, live music and community performances, the BBQ and Brew Fest returns this week! The event will take place from 6 to 9 PM this Friday, February 18th, and continue noon to 9PM on Saturday, February 19th on the Main Street plaza right here in Historic Downtown Yuma.

The event features the Best in the Desert Southwest cooking contest, sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society, with registered participants competing for the chance to move on to higher levels of competition. Attendees will be able to sample and then vote for their favorite chefs. The People’s Choice BBQ tasting samples will be noon to 3PM on Saturday while supplies last, on the 300 block of Main Street.
All ages are welcome to attend, with no admission fee. There will be live musical performances, with concerts by two of Yuma’s own, Tanner Gomes on Friday and Bobby McClendon Saturday. Show times for the concerts will be at 7:30PM each night. Community performances include line dancers, Dancers Workshop and the Gwynn Sisters. Additional attractions include outdoor yard games, stilt walkers, free face painting, balloon art and other festivities. A Kidz Zone with new attractions is $3 for unlimited play.

Sounds like a great time – hope you can fit it into your weekend plans!

John Anthony Vineyards 2020 Sauvignon Blanc (Carneros) $18.99

Santi 2019 Infinito Rosé (Veneto, Italy) $14.99

Infinito Rosé opens with a floral nose, along with hints of ripe pear, subtle spices and savory herbs. In the mouth it’s fresh, balanced and vibrant, with streamlined acidity and a pleasant hint of salinity. The bracingly dry, mouthwatering finish will have you begging for another sip…

Martin Ray 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) $22.99

This mountain-grown Napa Cabernet has gorgeous fruit purity, with ripe, fleshy black plum, currant and berry flavors that are framed and supported by firm yet nicely polished tannins. The result is a concentrated, finely focused wine that’s intense and rich, yet beautifully balanced.

Beronia 2012 Rioja Gran Reserva (Rioja, Spain) $32.99

This Gran Reserva was aged in French oak for 27 months and another 36 months in the bottle. The nose gives a subtle interplay of exotic spices, fragrant wood and sweet dark cherry. A velvety palate shows fine-grained tannins wrapped around an intense core of red and black fruits, with a touch of vanilla.

Opaque 2017 Darkness Red (Paso Robles) $29.99

This blend of Zinfandel, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Petit Verdot and Grenache is sourced from estate vineyards in the Paso Robles appellation. After aging in a combination of French and American oak for 12 months, this hand-crafted artisan wine gives ripe flavors of raspberry and blackberry, with spicy vanilla notes. Enjoy the darkness!

Quatro Mani 2018 Falanghina del Sannio (Campania, Italy) $16.99

Quatro Mani Falanghina del Sannio is wonderfully fresh, as a dusting of minerals give way to citrus-infused pear and floral notes. In the mouth a soft, silky texture floods the senses with ripe yellow apples and hints of sweet spice. The finish resonates with bright orchard fruits, a saline-and-mineral character and a buzz of residual acids.

González Byass Néctar Pedro Ximénez Sherry (Jerez, Spain) $18.99

Néctar is made from 100% Pedro Ximénez grapes, and aged for an average of 9 years. Opaque mahogany in color, it’s rich, sweet and velvety smooth on the palate, offering complex flavors of caramel, dried fruit, figs, mocha, roasted nuts and spice – a perfect partner with just about any sweet dessert!

AleSmith Brewing Cloud Stream IPA (San Diego) $4.99

This is a beer so rich in hazy content that it had to be downloaded from the Cloud. Just like a flowing river of juiciness from the heavens above, this hazy is packed with dazzling flavors of currant, passionfruit and mango. A creamy mouthfeel leads into a truly refreshing finish.
