Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

In case you’ve forgotten, this coming Sunday, May 8th, is Mother’s Day! Flowers are obviously in order, but a nice bottle of wine to go with them would certainly add a special touch as well. May I suggest a fine sparkling wine, a la French Champagne, or a really good California bubbly. Or if you think she might prefer something different, perhaps a nice rich, buttery Chardonnay or a top-notch Napa Valley Cabernet. There are some great options to consider here at the Wine Cellar, so be sure to make it down to the Cellar this week and select something for Mom.

Also this week as we head into May, First Friday will be celebrated again here in Historic Downtown. Retail stores and assorted other businesses will remain open until at least 8PM, and of course all our downtown eating & drinking establishments will be going strong (the Wine Cellar will certainly be among them!) So try to get downtown this coming Friday, and be sure to stop in at the Cellar when you do.

FEATURED WINES THIS WEEK

Copain 2016 Les Voisins Pinot Noir (Anderson Valley) $27.99

The 2016 “Les Voisins” Pinot Noir reflects the focus and concentration that this vintage is renowned for. Aromas of black cherries, star anise and sweet tea leaves greet the nose. On the palate, flavors of raspberry compote and red currants are met with accents of forest floor and vanilla on a lush and silky texture.

Corte Fiore 2018 Appassimento (Abruzzo, Italy) $15.99

Appassimento is a traditional Italian winemaking method in which the grapes are partially dried before pressing, resulting in wines with more richness, flavor and complexity. Palacios Remondo 2017 La Montesa (Rioja, Spain) $19.99

La Montesa is 92% Garnacha with 8% Tempranillo, sourced from the Palacios Remondo estate vineyards in Rioja. It opens with aromas of ripe red fruits and light notes of vanilla and toasted oak. The palate is smooth and silky, with dark plum and cherry flavors plus a hint of licorice.

Ferrari-Carano 2018 Estate Merlot (Sonoma County) $22.99

This beautifully balanced, medium-bodied Merlot is made from select lots of grapes sourced from F-C’s estate vineyards. Cooler climate valley floor vineyards create fruit-laden wines for the blend, and grapes from mountainside vineyards help provide intensity and structure.
