Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

Welcome to May! This first week of May will once again bring us First Friday in Historic Downtown, with most stores remaining open until 8PM or later. That means some of our unique downtown specialty retail stores will still be open to explore, as well as our numerous downtown Yuma eating & drinking establishments, many with expanded outdoor seating available (and the weather is still pretty nice in the evening). If you need further encouragement, check out the First Friday video on YouTube or on Facebook.

Hope to see you down here Friday (if not sooner!)

FEATURED WINES THIS WEEK

Fazi Battaglia 2019 Verdicchio (Le Marches, Italy) $12.99

Pale straw in color with faint jade hues, this central Italian white gives off an intense bouquet of fresh peaches and apples, with a slight scent of roses. On the palate it’s clean and dry, with refreshing acidity and a hint of bitter almond at the finish, typical of Italy’s Verdicchio varietal.

Pertinace 2018 Langhe Nebbiolo (Piedmont, Italy) $24.99

The Pertinace 2018 Langhe Nebbiolo exudes a delicate bouquet of raspberries and strawberries. The palate displays classic varietal characteristics of ripe red cherries accented by complex accents of dry herbs, earth and cedar, carried on an elegantly smooth and silky tannic frame.

Twenty Acres 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon (Clarksburg) $12.99

This abounds with flavors of cherries and plums, plus hints of chocolate. An addition of Petite Sirah adds flavors of blueberry, boysenberry and hints of black pepper. Finishing the wine’s aging in new French oak barrels imparts toasted oak accents and a smooth, silky mouthfeel.

Clos de los Siete 2017 Red Blend (Valle de Uco, Argentina) $18.99

This is a deep red in the glass, shot through with the purple glints characteristic of Malbec. On the nose, an intense and complex aromatic expression exudes subtle notes of blueberries, lavender and spice. In the mouth, tannins are assertive yet ripe, framing a fruit-filled palate that’s juicy, caressing and refined.

Stonegate 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) $22.99

Stonegate is a classic expression of Napa Valley Cabernet, with a lush bouquet of dark fruit and cassis accented by hints of cedar and vanilla. Deep and vivid fruit flavors on the palate are beautifully conveyed on a silky tannic frame, coming to a lingering finish.

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS

Chateau Haut-Beauséjour 2016 Saint-Estèphe (Bordeaux, France) $35.99

This “Left-Bank” Bordeaux blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Verdot opens with scents of crushed cherries, sweet tobacco, cedar and a touch of dark chocolate. The palate offers an array of dark fruit flavors augmented with notes of coffee, toasted oak and spices.

Alta Mora 2018 Etna Bianco (Sicily, Italy) $22.99

The 2018 Etna Bianco is a pure expression of Sicily’s Carricante varietal. It has super crisp and sharp lines, with a taut, citrus fruit character that’s mellowed nicely with flavors of ripe summer peach. A backdrop of crushed stone enlivens the lingering finish.

Dave Phinney Locations “E” Red (Spain) $19.99

Phinney’s Locations “E” is a blend of Garnacha from Priorat, Tempranillo from Rioja and Carignan from Ribera del Duero. On the nose, aromas of dark cherry and exotic spice notes mingle. The entry is rich with youthful berry compote, floral and plum character supported by bright acidity. The finish is long and pleasing, with a persistent mocha tinge and silky tannins.

Cheers!
