5/30/2022 Newsletter
Greetings from the Wine Cellar:
Happy Memorial Day to everyone! It’s a day to celebrate the (unofficial) arrival of summer, as well as to pay tribute to all those who served and sacrificed in the defense of our great country over the centuries. And of course the weather in Yuma is sunny and beautiful, as always. Just a quick reminder that with the arrival of June, this Friday is once again First Friday in Historic Downtown Yuma, with retail shops and assorted other businesses remaining open until at least 8PM, and of course all the downtown eating & drinking establishments will be going strong (the Wine Cellar included). So I hope you make it downtown this Friday, and please stop in at the Cellar when you do!
FEATURED WINES THIS WEEK
Matua 2021 Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough, New Zealand) $12.99

Bewitched 2020 Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley) $22.99
Bewitched is textbook Russian River Valley Pinot. Aromas of dark raspberries and cherries emerge on the nose, with a hint of rose petals. The palate offers rich black fruit flavors plus accent of spice and black tea. This is an elegant and layered wine with supple tannins.
Luna Nuda 2019 Red Blend (Sicily, Italy) $15.99
Luna Nuda red blend is a classic southern Italian red, comprised of Nero D’Avola and Nerello Mascalese. The finish is elegant, with balanced acidity.
Torres 2016 Altos Ibéricos Crianza (Rioja, Spain) $17.99
Torres’ Altos Ibéricos Crianza is ruby red, with a garnet edge. The nose is redolent of ripe dark fruit plus scents of spice and leather. On the palate, bright dark cherry and brambly wild berry fruit is edged with complex baking spice and toast accents.
J. Lohr 2019 Hilltop Cabernet Sauvignon (Paso Robles) $29.99
J Lohr’s Hilltop Cabernet is always among Paso’s finest. Varietal fruit aromas of ripe black plums and violets are enhanced by a French oak barrel character of vanilla and dark chocolate. A dense, supple and approachable palate is followed by an intense, rich and fruit-filled finish.
NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS
Allegrini 2018 Palazzo Della Torre (Veneto, Italy) $19.99
Palazzo Della Torre is crafted in a manner similar to the classic Amarone wines, but only a portion of the grapes are dried prior to being pressed. The result is a red with a savory, rich and complex character. The nose offers a bouquet of floral, vanilla and black fruit aromas, followed by dark cherry and plum flavors enlivened with subtle spice accents.
Chateau Cassemichère 2020 Muscadet-Sèvre et Maine (Loire Valley, France) $17.99
This fragrant Loire white offers expressive aromas of citrus, apricots and wildflowers. It’s refreshingly clean in the mouth, with a savory touch of salinity and a lightly stony mineral character. Juicy white fruit flavors dominate the front-palate and a distinctive pear-skin accent enlivens a zesty finish.
Torres 2017 5G Cinco Garnachas (Campo de Borja, Spain) $14.99
The ‘5G’ Garnacha is fragrant and sensual. Pronounced red fruit aromas of strawberries, red currants and raspberries on the nose mingle with hints of aromatic herbs like thyme and rosemary. It’s fresh, pleasant and smoothly satisfying on the palate, with good acidity.
Wren House Brewing Ovest Pilsner (Phoenix) $4.99
Ovest is an Italian-style Pilsner brewedwith Eraclea Pilsner malt, produced just outside of Venice, to provide an upfront crackery, dry profile followed by a touch of Carahell to provide a sweetened malty balance. A refreshing floral and classic European hop character gives it a crisp bitterness, leaving you wanting one more sip…
Cheers!
