Greetings from the Wine Cellar:
There will be a slight change in Wine Cellar business hours this week and part of next week, through Thursday July 28th. Instead of our normal weekday opening time of 11:00AM, the Cellar will be open at 1:00PM this week and continuing next week through Thursday. However, our Saturday opening time of 10:00AM will remain unchanged. Otherwise, the Cellar will continue to be your respite from our toasty summer heat!
FEATURED WINES THIS WEEK
Fontana Candida 2019 Frascati Terre Dei Grifi (Lazio, Italy) $11.99
The grapes for this refreshingly dry, clean white are grown in porous volcanic soils near the city of Rome. A distinct minerality drives the nose, along with hints of peach, citrus peel and basil. Dominant flavors of citrus and pear highlight the palate, with a light note of toasted almond.
Sassoregale 2018 Sangiovese (Tuscany, Italy) $15.99
A perfect expression of Tuscan Sangiovese, this shows classic varietal aromas of spiced black cherries, accented with subtle hints of dry herbs and earth. On the palate, a bath of sweet red currants is supported by gripping tannins, finishing up with a savory richness.
Hearst Ranch Winery 2018 Three Sisters Cuvée (Paso Robles) $17.99
Hibiscus and strawberry scents mix on the nose of this Rhone-style blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, and then peppery spice notes up the ante. It makes a perfect summertime red, served with a light chill to showcase its flavors of red cherries, sandalwood and tarragon.
Achaval Ferrer 2019 Malbec (Mendoza, Argentina) $19.99
Achaval Ferrer is one of Argentina’s premier producers of that country’s signature varietal. This wine opens with lovely aromas of violets and crushed raspberries and follows through to a vivid palate of ripe blackberry fruit edged with complex notes of black pepper and toast.
Frank Family Vineyards 2018 Merlot (Napa Valley) $39.99
Frank Family’s first vintage of Merlot in nearly two decades, this wine opens with aromas of fresh dark plums intertwined with elements of coffee and cedar. On the palate it’s complex and elegant, with layers of ripe blackberry and pomegranate fruit plus a streak of dark chocolate that carries through a persistent finish.
NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS
Mer Soleil 2020 Chardonnay (Santa Lucia Highlands) $22.99
Year after year, Mer Soleil is one of the most distinctive Chardonnays in California. The rich, silky mouthfeel offers apricot jam, crème brulee and toasted oak flavors, but for all its opulence, it’s entirely dry and shows a zesty acidity to balance a creamy finish.
XYZin 2017 California Old Vine Zinfandel $14.99
XYZin Old Vine Zinfandel is sourced from diverse vineyard sites in Sonoma County, Lake County and Solano County. Hilltop and benchland sites in these appellations contribute elegant spice, jammy ripe berry fruit and bold tannins to this delicious Zin.
St. Huberts The Stag 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon (Paso Robles) $19.99
This full-bodied Cabernet delivers rich layers of lush fruit and silky, well-integrated tannins. The mid-palate is juicy, with dark fruit, mocha and spice flavors. The wine is supported, but not dominated by oak – adding a slight toasty edge to a supple, graceful, balanced texture.
Cheers!
