Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

Downtown Yuma is the place to be for great evening entertainment (and food & drink). This coming Thursday, August 19th, the Red Moon Alehouse at 130 S. Main Street presents a night of great music with Phoenix-based Alternative Rock trio Ultraviolet Communication, plus local guest openers. The show goes from 8PM to 11PM with no cover charge and all ages welcome.

And, the Lutes’ Summer Jazz Series continues in Historic Downtown this week, with the Yuma Jazz Company Quartet performing Friday evening, August 20th at Lutes’ Casino, 221 S. Main Street. For this performance the YJC will be accompanied by guest vocalist Eloisa Arviso. The show starts at 7PM and goes until 9PM, with free admission for all.

As always, downtown is the place to be this week, so stop by the Wine Cellar, enjoy a nice glass of wine or two, or a cold craft brew, and then stroll down the street to enjoy some great live music. Hope you can make it!

FEATURED WINES THIS WEEK

Trefethen 2019 Dry Riesling (Napa Valley) $19.99

Floral aromas of citrus blossom and jasmine are complemented by a touch of green apple and ruby grapefruit. This bright, refreshing white evolves on the palate, combining flavors of Honey Crisp apple, nectarine and white peach with a brisk acidity to give it an invigorating finish.

Bewitched 2019 Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley) $21.99

Bewitched is textbook Russian River Valley Pinot. Aromas of dark raspberries and cherries emerge on the nose, with a hint of rose petals. The palate offers rich black fruit flavors plus accent of spice and black tea. This is an elegant and layered wine with supple tannins.

Langetwins 2017 Old Vine Zinfandel (Lodi) $14.99

This Old Vine Lodi Zin exudes aromas of sweet vanilla, fennel and ripe blueberries and boysenberries. It’s lush and juicy on the palate, overflowing with ripe, brambly wild berry fruit flavors that culminate in a long finish edged with pepper and spice notes.

Poggio Civetta 2016 Chianti Classico (Tuscany, Italy) $19.99

Expressive and smooth, this Classico hits all the right notes, with pure black cherry, black currant and violet flavors. Touches of earth, truffle and pipe tobacco add complexity. The tannins are nicely polished and the acidity is very well integrated with the wine’s rich fruit.

Daou Vineyards 2018 Bodyguard Red (Paso Robles) $39.99

This 60% Petit Verdot / 40% Petite Sirah blend has a fragrant nose of blackberry, raspberry and crème de cassis. A fleshy palate offers generous flavors of cherry, strawberry and blueberry accented by black raspberry and tamarind, with underlying accents of dusty leather, pencil shavings, cigar box and herbs.

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS

Nickel & Nickel 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon, Vaca Vista Vineyard (Napa Valley) $114.99

Sourced from Napa’s Oak Knoll District, this Cabernet is firm and structured, with a rich core of red and black fruits that’s framed with sturdy tannins. The ample fruit has a subtle underlay of loamy earth. An alluring hint of violets chimes in at the finish.

Blandy’s Malmsey, Aged 15 Years (Madeira, Portugal) $39.99

This 15 Year Malmsey is a burnished gold-amber in the glass, with the classic Madeira bouquet of raisins, toffee and roast nuts along with a fine lacing of honeycomb. It’s lush and creamy on the palate, with rich flavors of honey, fig paste, almonds and apricots. Fresh acidity balances the wine’s luscious, caramel-candy sweetness.

Modern Times Brewing Cosmic Rays Hazy IPA (San Diego) $4.99

This relentlessly tropical, unassailably fruit-bomb spectacle of hazecraft is the progeny of staggering quantities of Simcoe, Citra, Sabro and Ekuanot hops. The convergence of these lupulin-laden marvels yields an abundance of tangerine, pineapple, coconut and tropical fruit that enchants from the aroma to the lingering finish, leaving wistful memories in its wake…

Cheers!
