Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

Our Newsletter is a bit late this week, due to some unexpected technical issues relating to the Old Town Wine Cellar website’s migration to a new, faster and (hopefully!) more secure server.  But thanks to my good friend and internet guru Jon Perry at Imaginary Friends Design Studios here in Yuma (www.neverseeme.com) we have resolved the issue and here you are.  The Labor Day holiday weekend is at hand, so don’t forget to come by the Wine Cellar and stock up on some great wines and craft beers to celebrate the holiday weekend if you’re staying around town for the weekend, and safe travels to you if you’re not.  Have a great holiday weekend everyone!

THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING:

MacRostie 2013 Chardonnay (Sonoma Coast)    $19.99
Delicate floral aromas introduce this wine, followed by lemon citrus and peach stone fruit notes. The soft entry offers a nice hint of pie-crust spice plus candied orange peel.  There’s a rich and pleasing fullness on the mid-palate, and it finishes with a crisp and lasting citrus-zest character.

Woodwork 2013 Pinot Noir (Central Coast)    $14.99
The Woodwork 2013 Pinot Noir shows a rich varietal character complemented by a precisely applied dose of French oak.  The palate shows upfront juicy cranberry and plum flavors with fine tannins and a complex edge of smoke and spice notes.

Michele Chiarlo 2011 Le Orme Barbera d’Asti (Piedmont, Italy)    $14.99
Le Orme is an enticing Italian red, bursting with juicy blackberry, black currant and spice flavors accented by touches of violet and mineral.  Barbera’s vibrant acidic structure combined with its easygoing tannins make this a great table wine.

1,000 Stories 2013 Bourbon Barrel Aged Zinfandel (Mendocino County)    $17.99
This deliciously ripe Mendocino Zin opens with aromas of blackberries and raspberries, accented by notes of molasses and clove.  A rich fruit core is enhanced by unmistakable Bourbon whiskey flavors of charred vanilla and caramel, imparted by its aging in used barrels sourced from premium distillers like Heaven Hill and Four Roses.

Santo Tomas 2012 Tempranillo-Cabernet (Baja California, Mexico)    $22.99
This Baja red blend is an equal mix of Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from the Santo Tomas Valley just south of Ensenada, Mexico.  The two varietals together create a fine interplay of ripe dark fruit, structure and savory complexity.

Marchesi dé Frescobaldi 2013 Tenuta di Castiglioni (Tuscany, Italy)    $24.99
Tenuta di Castiglioni is Frescobaldi’s proprietary Super-Tuscan, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The nose exudes a rich medley of dark cherry and chocolate aromas.  Rich flavors of crushed cherries and red currants and savory notes of dried herbs swirl on a silky, refined palate.

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:

Swanson 2012 Merlot (Napa Valley)    $27.99
Swanson well known for their focus on producing some of Napa’s finest Merlot since the winery’s founding in 1985.  The 2012 is firm and dry yet elegantly styled, with rich spice accents that enhance the fruit-filled palate. The round, soft finish shows a slight touch of vanilla.

Rancho Sisquoc 2014 River Red (Santa Barbara County)    $17.99
River Red is a blend of 8 different grapes, all estate-grown by Rancho Sisquoc.  The wine offers powerful clove and spice notes at first taste plus a dark chocolate element.  Sweet red cherry fruit and edgy tannins are balanced by a pleasant espresso bite, with a light touch of oak toast at the finish.

Ninkasi N10 Anniversary Ale (Eugene, Oregon)    $19.99
The N10, Ninkasi’s 10th Anniversary Ale, is a unique blend of 50% Imperial Stout, 10% Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout, 12.5% Total Domination IPA, 12.5% Imperial Maiden the Shade IPA and 15% Critical Hit Barleywine.  Big and flavorful, it mixes a striking hop intensity with a rich caramel and malt backbone.

Cheers!
