Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

There are a series of great roadshows taking place at the Historic Yuma Theatre this winter season, and this week’s show especially caught my eye – it’s called Saturday Night Fever – The International Bee Gees Tribute!  According to the playbill:

SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER is a sensational production featuring massive dance hits including “Night Fever”, “Jive Talkin'”, “How Deep Is Your Love”, “You Should Be Dancing”, “Nights on Broadway” along with iconic Bee Gees ballads like “I Started a Joke”, “Massachusetts”, “Words”, “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart?” and “To Love Somebody”.  SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER captures the very essence of these Australian superstars and delivers a night that will live in your memory forever!

Wow.  Saturday Night Fever – The International Bee Gees Tribute debuts at 7:00PM this Friday, January 22nd in the Historic Yuma Theatre (254 S. Main Street, 928-373-5202).  Doors open at 6:30pm and tickets are $25.00.  So dig deep in the closet and find some appropriate attire that you’ve been hanging onto since the 70’s, come down to Historic Downtown Friday and indulge yourself in some great nostalgia.  But stop at the Wine Cellar first for another great wine tasting!

THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING):

Murrieta’s Well 2013 The Whip (Livermore Valley)    $18.99
The Whip is a tribute to the great white blends of the world – a sophisticated yet approachable blend of classic white varietals.  Fermented and aged in a mix of stainless steel tanks and older oak barrels, it offers lush aromas and flavors of pear, vanilla, butterscotch and orange blossom.

Hartford Court 2013 Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley)    $29.99
Hartford Court is classic Russian River Valley Pinot.  Aromas of dark raspberries and cherries emerge from the glass, plus a hint of rose petals.  The palate offers suave dark fruit flavors plus undertones of cola, Asian spices and black tea.  It’s a seductively layered wine with fine acidity and soft, enveloping tannins.

Delas 2013 Côtes du Rhône Saint-Esprit (Rhone Valley, France)   $12.99
Saint-Esprit is made with primarily Grenache grapes, sourced from a small village in the southern Rhone. The vineyard’s southern exposure on steep, granitic hillsides provides a perfect growing environment. It’s a fresh and savory red, with rich fruit accented by spice notes.

Conundrum 2013 California Red, 27th Anniversary Edition    $17.99
Intensely colored and fragrant, Conundrum exudes evocative aromas of blackberry, raspberry, rhubarb and cola.  The palate is full-bodied and exuberantly fruity, pairing black cherry, plum and pomegranate fruit with cinnamon and lavender nuances.  The tannins are supple and rich, with a touch of toasty vanilla.

Cambria 2012 Syrah, Tepusquet Vineyard (Santa Maria Valley)    $19.99
Cambria’s Tepusquet Vineyard has sandy, loamy soils that restrict vine vigor and help increase concentration, enhancing varietal character and creating more robust flavors. This Syrah offers deep dark fruit and cinnamon spice on the nose.  Rich mocha, blackberry and plum fruit flavors mingle with spice and earth notes on the palate.

Justin 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon (Paso Robles)    $24.99
Aromas of black cherry, currant and vanilla waft from the glass.  A soft, delicate entry is woven into a deep, plush palate that offers flavors of blueberry, cassis and a moderate touch of spice.  Ripe, supple tannins with a touch of dark chocolate frame the satisfying finish.

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:

Bodegas Muriel 2008 Rioja Reserva (Rioja, Spain)    $17.99
This opens with the classic cherry, vanilla and tobacco leaf tones that Rioja reds are famed for. In the mouth, spicy dark cherry and berry fruit flavors mingle with a touch of vanilla and anise, plus a pleasant note of toast from 2 years of oak barrel aging.

Miraflores 2013 “Clone” Rhone Blend (El Dorado County)    $22.99
The “Clone” is blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre, crafted in the style of the great Chateauneuf-du-Pape reds of France.  The palate offers a classic southern Rhone Valley mixture of ripe dark raspberries and peppery spice notes. Soft, smooth tannins create a silky mouthfeel through the finish.

Iron Horse Vineyards Wedding Cuvée (Green Valley)    $34.99
This is a beautifully focused, rich and refined California sparkler, with juicy apple and raspberry flavors that are creamy yet still deliciously crisp and clean.  Cassis and lime-zest flavors linger on the refreshing finish, along with a pleasant hint of yeasty bread dough.

Deschutes Brewery Black Butte XXVII Porter (Bend, Oregon)    $15.99
Deschutes 27th Anniversary Black Butte Imperial Porter was brewed with cocoa nibs, pomegranate molasses and selected spices, blended with apricot puree and then aged in bourbon barrels. The result is a rich and truly exquisite ale with a bold chocolate character, inspired flavors of fruit and a pinch of spice.

Cheers!
