Greetings from the Wine Cellar:
This week is going to be busy in Historic Downtown Yuma with the annual BBQ & Brews Festival Friday and Saturday, with some great entertainments scheduled and there are sure to be lots of food options available. Be sure to stop by the Old Town Wine Cellar to try our Featured Wines of the Week. This week’s selection includes four new wines available at the Old Town Wine Cellar. Each one is fantastic and very pleasing to a variety of palates. Come in and try them all, you might just find a new favorite.

On another note, I can hardly believe it has been almost one year since I took the helm here at the Old Town Wine Cellar. We will be celebrating this first milestone on Saturday March 2nd, and I will put out more details later this week but wanted to let everyone know so you can save the date.

FEATURED WINES THIS WEEK

Sample all five featured wines for $15 or by the Glass

Provenance Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc 2021 (North Coast, California)

This Sauvignon Blanc captures the flavor profile of grapes grown in the Rutherford AVA, in the center of Napa Valley. Aged in sur lie for creamy nuances and texture. Semillon is blended in, for melon notes and a silky mouthfeel. Some favorite pairings include fresh greens with warmed goat cheese, sautéed scallops, grilled fish or chicken, and angel hair pasta with basil pesto.
($10 by the glass)

CaMaiol Benaco Bresciano Rosso Giomè 2019 (Lombardia, Italy)

The name of this wine is a play on an Ancient Roman word, Giomelle, which means “the union of two things”. Giomè represents the union of two elements: a grape variety that is indigenous to Lake Garda, Groppello, with a blend made up of Marzemino, Barbera and Sangiovese varieties. Medium-bodied with very balanced hints of wood. The fragrance resembles berries with a hint of tobacco and spices. Perfect for grilled red meats, especially with game, or rich dishes like braised lamb shank.
($10 by the glass)

Black Slate Priorat Escaladei Vi de la Vila 2019 (Priorat, Spain)

Black Slate Escaladei, a blend of Garnatxa, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Carinyena, are sourced from the foothills of the Montsant mountains. It stands out among its Black Slate siblings as the most elegant of the lineup, being inclined more towards red fruit than black, with a high-toned minerality and spiciness.
($10 by the glass)

Provenance Vineyards Merlot 2019 (Napa Valley)

Smoked spices, chocolate, black olives, and cured meat on top of the rich black cherries and blackberries. Ripe and flavorful on the palate with a medium to full body coated by opulent fruit and creamy tannins. Long and flattering finish.
($12 by the glass)

DAOU Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 (Paso Robles, California)

This DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon presents a deep ruby-purple color, with intense aromas of cherry and blackberry jam complemented by dark chocolate, tobacco leaf and desert sage. On the palate, black raspberry, pomegranate, cherry preserve, and Zante currant melds seamlessly with crushed herbs, fig, and cranberry. An impeccably balanced finish flows effortlessly from the juicy mid palate, leaving lovely notes of boysenberry, rhubarb, graphite and dried thyme.

CORAVIN® BY THE GLASS OPTIONS

Orin Swift 2021 Mercury Head Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley, California) $175.99/Bottle

An almost-black, opaque garnet core sits in the glass with slow-moving tears falling down the sides. Immediate aromatic notes of ripe cassis, charred ribeye, sandalwood and freshly cut oak pilfer. The first sip is a complex, layered conundrum of blackberry, black plum, fennel, licorice and dark chocolate. More sips peel back the layers to reveal a rich and balanced wine with a deep cassis core. A sweet linger on the finish closes the wine with softly textured chalky tannins.
($35 per glass)

Beaulieu Vineyard 2019 Georges de Latour Private Reserve (Napa Valley, California) $155.99/Bottle

Wow! The aromas to this are really exceptional, with a tangerine edge to the blackcurrants, graphite, lead pencil, flowers and wet earth. It changes all the time. So expressive and refined. Full-bodied with great intensity and depth of fruit. The ultra-fine tannins display millions of layers. The texture on the palate is superb and lasts for minutes. This is the new 1974 George de Latour, which was a legend. Real Napa Valley red here. Drinkable now, to understand it, but truly great in five to six years and onwards.
($32 per glass)

JUSTIN 2019 Isosceles (Paso Robles, California) $89.99/Bottle

Isosceles presents with aromatic notes of ripe blackberry, juicy black plum, and cassis with dried violet, leather, vanilla bean, fresh herbs, camphor, and toasted oak. Full-bodied with baked black cherry pie, fresh mission fig, and black currant on the entry. The midpalate of new leather, fresh wild sage, porcini mushroom, dried black olive, and cedar is carried by balanced freshness and abundant velvety tannins that lead to a long, complex finish of sustained fresh berries, camphor, oak, toasted cinnamon stick, star anise, and dried flowers.
($22 per glass)

DAOU Reserve 2020 Seventeen Forty (Paso Robles, California) $78.99/Bottle

Inspired by the classics of Saint-Émilion, the 2020 DAOU Reserve Seventeen Forty is a Cabernet Franc driven wine with a harmonious complement of Merlot. Beguiling aromas of blackberry cobbler, raspberry, crème de cassis and cherry pipe tobacco anticipate hints of toasty oak, black licorice and pencil shaving. Lush and full bodied, this wine bestows rich flavors of cherry, black plum, dark chocolate and blueberry compote with lovely accents of Zante currant, graphite and cinnamon. Solid structure and fine-grained tannins support a lengthy, focused finish, leaving notes of plum and boysenberry underscored by cocoa and black truffle.
