THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING:

Dr. Hermann 2015 Riesling Kabinett (Ürziger Würzgarten)    $21.99
The grapes for this wine are hand-picked from steeply terraced slate vineyard sites by the Mosel River, then fermented in the traditional manner with natural yeasts and aged on the lees.  The nose brings to mind fully ripe peaches, honeysuckle and melon. A juicy and elegant palate offers a creamy richness, edged by mineral tones.

Talbott Vineyards 2014 Kali Hart Pinot Noir (Monterey County)    $22.99
Kali Hart is made from a careful selection of prime fruit from Talbott’s famed Sleepy Hollow Vineyard, in the cool Santa Lucia Highlands region of Monterey. This offers rich and fresh flavors of black cherry and raspberry fruit, with a touch of minerality.

Altovinum Evodia 2014 Garnacha (Aragon, Spain)    $11.99
Spanish Garnacha (or Grenache) is usually peppery, zesty and loaded with fresh raspberry fruit.  This one exudes fresh aromas of black cherries and crushed raspberries. In the mouth, it’s soft and round, with ripe red raspberry and cherry fruit plus a light touch of toasty oak.

Ancient Peaks 2014 Zinfandel (Paso Robles)    $17.99
Sourced entirely from the Santa Margarita Ranch Vineyard, this Zin offers aromas of raspberries, blueberries and white pepper. The palate is chewy and fruit-packed, with flavors of blackberry jam and black cherry and complex hints of vanilla, caramel and cola.  Spice notes emerge on a rich finish.

Cultivate The Feast 2010 California Red    $19.99
Made with premium fruit sourced from the Napa Valley, Alexander Valley and Santa Lucia Highlands, Cultivate’s The Feast is a rich and soft, yet well-structured Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec. Deep berry and dark plum fruit flavors last nicely through a long and velvety finish.

Ancient Peaks 2014 Renegade Syrah (Paso Robles)    $24.99
The Renegade has concentrated red and black fruit aromas with suggestions of cedar, smoked bacon and high-toned oak.  The palate is packed with velvety layers of boysenberry, black cherry, blueberry and currant fruit, edged by notes of vanilla and pepper.

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:

Match Book 2013 The Arsonist Red (Dunnigan Hills)    $21.99
Match Book Arsonist Red is dense and dark.  Aromas of mocha, blueberry and cardamom intermingle with cigar box notes and hints of black pepper.  A sweet oak character on the entry brings in juicy blackberry and cherry flavors on the mid-palate, finishing with a peppery nip.  A proprietary blend of 52% Petit Verdot, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Merlot.

Terra d’Oro 2014 Petite Sirah (Amador County)    $17.99
This Amador Petite Sirah offers a delightful aroma profile of cracked peppercorns, bay leaf and clove, with light toffee notes in the background.  The palate is a rich mouthful of ripe  black fruits, framed by firm tannins and a nice dash of toasty oak at the finish.

Cambria 2014 Bench Break Chardonnay (Santa Maria Valley)    $15.99
Cambria’s Bench Break Estate Chardonnay offers aromas of fresh mango, ripe peach, lemon, vanilla bean and spice.  Those fruit elements dominate the palate as well, and are accentuated by a bright, well-balanced acidity along with a subtle measure of oak toast.

Lagunitas Maximus IPA (Petaluma, California)    $5.99
The Maximus is an Imperial / Double IPA style, offering fairly high ABV (8.2%) along with an assertive yet surprisingly well balanced blast of hops.  Golden in hue with a nose of grapefruit and pine needles, this is classic West Coast IPA, with flavors of pineapples, mango and passionfruit along with a nicely bitter edge.  One of these may not be enough!

Cheers!
