Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

This Saturday, February 21st, the Old Town Wine Cellar will present another of our regular Saturday Afternoon Beer Tastings.  We’ll go from noon to 5 PM, so make your way down to Old Town this weekend and you can sample some of our newest brews at the Cellar.  The tasting fee is just $5 as always, and all the beers will be available by the glass.  And feel free to stop by the Cellar during the week and sample some great wines!

THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING:

Calera 2012 Chardonnay (Central Coast)    $18.99
This is classic California Chardonnay, with floral and fruit aromas of pineapple, apricot, lemon meringue and apple complemented by notes of hazelnut and spice.  It’s buttery and rich on the palate, with creamy vanilla tones accented by a touch of spicy toasted oak.

Ritual 2012 Pinot Noir (Casablanca Valley, Chile)    $17.99
Sourced from Chile’s cool Casablanca Valley, this offers fresh scents of cherry, raspberry and strawberry, complemented by subtle toast notes.  Vibrant flavors of cherry and raspberry, silky tannins, fresh acidity and a lengthy finish make this a truly elegant Pinot Noir.

Liberty School 2009 Cuvée (Central Coast)    $14.99
Liberty School Cuvée is 85% Syrah, blended with some Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Grenache and Viognier.  The wine is a fresh and decidedly fruit-forward red, offering aromas of blueberry and dark cherry on the nose and abundant ripe dark fruit character.

Chateau Pesquié 2012 Terrasses Ventoux (Rhone Valley, France)    $16.99
Although Chateau Pesquié is situated in the southern Rhone, the altitude and thus cooler temperatures of Mt. Ventoux lend the terroir more northern Rhone-like characteristics of texture and finesse.  An intense nose exudes spicy notes, especially black pepper.  This nicely balanced blend of Grenache and Syrah offers round tannins and plenty of rich dark fruit.

Folie à Deux 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon (Alexander Valley)    $23.99
This Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is well-balanced and polished, featuring fragrant aromas of dark cherries, blackberries, currants and anise.  Rich, elegant flavors of ripe dark fruits and spice lead to a focused and finely crafted finish.

Poggio Antico 2011 Lemartine (Tuscany, Italy)    $39.99
Lemartine is among the premier examples of international-styled Tuscan blends.  A structured yet racy blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Verdot, it has a bouquet of juicy berry fruit, rose petals and spice.  The palate is full and firm yet polished and smooth, culminating in a long, rich finish.

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:

Quinta de la Rosa Tonel 12 10 Year Old Tawny Port (Douro Valley, Portugal)    $24.99
The Tonel 12 opens with a very lush and intense nose of orange rind, fig, almond and hints of marmalade. On the palate, it displays a rich, lusciously sweet, and superbly concentrated core of dried fruit and caramel/toffee flavors.  The finish is lush, lingering and full of spice.

Sartori 2011 Pinot Noir (Veneto, Italy)    $12.99
This northern Italian Pinot Noir shows a clear, bright ruby in the glass, with a violet edge.  The bouquet offers scents of black cherries, clove and chocolate, with a touch of spicy vanilla.  The palate is dry and well-balanced, a good blend of fruit and acidity.

Paul Mathew 2012 Pinot Noir, Horseshoe Bend Vineyard (Russian River Valley)    $49.99
This single-vineyard Pinot Noir exudes high-spirited aromas of cherries, cranberries and rhubarb, with a hint of Earl Grey tea.  Mouthfilling, vivid flavors of dark cherries and black raspberries expand impressively in the mouth, lingering nicely through a savory, cherry-and-sassafras finish.

Iron Fist Imperial Rebellion Farmhouse Ale (Vista, California)    $8.99
Imperial Rebellion is an Imperial Belgian-style of farmhouse ale.  It’s brewed using copious amounts of New Zealand grown Motueka & Nelson Sauvin hops, along with kaffir lime leaves from Southeast Asia.  Intense tropical fruit and citrus notes dominate this unique, delicious brew.

Cheers!
