Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

This Saturday, March 11th, Yuma Heritage Festivals presents the 6th Annual Music on Main in Historic Downtown on the Main Street Plaza.  The music starts at 3PM and goes until 11PM, with performances by The Conners, Side Hustle Band, Ruben Hernandez, Savage Salsa Dance Company, Ken McLaughlin and DJ Money.  As usual, there will be lots of vendors and a variety of food and drink options available (not to mention the great dining & drinking establishments we have here downtown!)  This is always a fun Saturday afternoon/evening’s entertainment, and a great way to enjoy our beautiful spring weather.  Hope you can make it!

THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING:

This Washington State Pinot Gris gives a first impression of restrained pineapple, peach, apricot, and light floral aromas on top of a clean flinty note. The palate offers bright flavors of stone fruits and citrus, with a finely etched minerality that frames a crisp and refreshing finish.

Sassoregale 2014 Sangiovese (Tuscany, Italy)    $15.99
A perfect expression of Tuscan Sangiovese, this offers classic varietal aromas of spiced dark cherries accented by a subtle hints of herbs and earth. The palate is a bath of sweet red currants supported by fine, gripping tannins, finishing with a persistent, savory richness.

André Brunel 2012 Cotes du Rhone Villages Cuvée Sabrine (Rhone Valley, France)    $16.99
This is made by the renowned Châteauneuf du Pape producer André Brunel, and 100% sourced from family-owned vineyards. Cuvée Sabrine is a blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvedre. It’s loaded with meaty notes of blackberry and blueberry fruit, along with accents of smoke and tobacco leaf interlaced with notes of cherry confit, a telltale sign of fully ripe Grenache.

Skyfall Vineyard 2013 Merlot (Columbia Valley)    $15.99
The Skyfall Vineyard Merlot is a savory red with a complex bouquet of ripe dark cherry, pomegranate and plum scents, followed by intricately woven flavors of raspberries and black plums. Smooth, supple tannins carry all that generous fruit to a long, silky finish.

1,000 Stories 2013 Bourbon Barrel Aged Zinfandel (Mendocino County)    $18.99
This deliciously ripe Mendocino Zin opens with aromas of blackberries and raspberries, accented by notes of molasses and clove.  A rich fruit core is enhanced by subtle Bourbon whiskey flavors of charred vanilla and caramel, imparted by aging in used barrels sourced from premium distillers like Heaven Hill and Four Roses.

Whitehall Lane 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)    $34.99
A classic expression of Napa Valley Cabernet, this offers a lush bouquet of black fruits and cassis accented by hints of smoke and vanilla.  The rich, deep fruit flavors on the palate are beautifully carried on a supple tannic frame, setting a perfect stage for the majestic, lingering finish.

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:

Bodegas Toro Albalá 1986 Don PX Gran Reserva (Montilla-Moriles, Spain)    $59.99
Don PX Gran Reserva is a superb rendition of well-aged Pedro Ximenez sherry, offering a refined, silky and truly ethereal palate that absolutely must be tasted to be believed. The wine pours thick, rich and black as midnight with impossibly deep, complex flavors that defy description and linger in the mouth for minutes on end.

Dr. Hermann 2015 H Estate Riesling (Mosel Valley, Germany)    $15.99

The finish is clean and spicy, enlivened by the zesty, refreshing minerality that makes Riesling such a great food wine.

Marqués de Vargas 2011 Rioja Crianza (Rioja, Spain)    $14.99
2011 was acclaimed as a classic vintage in Rioja.  This Crianza is deep ruby red with a garnet edge.  The nose is redolent of ripe dark fruit plus hints of spice and leather. On the palate, cherry and brambly berry fruit is edged with complex spice and oak accents.

Green Flash Treasure Chest IPA (San Diego)    $8.99
Say Aloha to the Treasure Chest – an exotic pink IPA brewed with grapefruit, prickly pear juice and hibiscus flowers. Erupting with fruit-forward complexity, this has aromas of citrus and stone fruits.  The pleasantly bitter hoppy flavors are enhanced by the addition of fresh grapefruit juice and balanced by prickly pear juice, along with an exotic touch of hibiscus.

Cheers!
