Greetings from the Wine Cellar:
This Saturday, March 16th, Yuma Heritage Festivals presents the annual Music on Main & St. Patrick’s Day Celebration on the Main Street Plaza here in Historic Downtown. The music starts at 3:00PM and the party goes on until 11:00, with live performances by Random Article, Beg 2 Differ, and Mellobean. As always, there will be multiple food and drink options available on the Plaza (not to mention all the great dining & drinking establishments downtown!) This is always a fun Saturday afternoon/evening’s entertainment, and a fine way to enjoy our beautiful spring weather. So come on downtown Saturday and join the party!
THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING:
Heitz 2015 Chardonnay (Napa Valley) $24.99 Heitz has produced acclaimed Chardonnays since the winery’s founding in 1961. The fruit is sourced from throughout Napa Valley, resulting in a wine that’s beautifully layered with mineral accents as well as vivid fruit flavors. This truly captures the essence of the varietal.
Angeline 2017 Reserve Pinot Noir (Mendocino County) $15.99 This is sourced from premium vineyards located in northern California’s Mendocino County. There, cool and foggy coastal influences help produce a classically styled and velvety Pinot Noir with a delicately spicy bouquet, keenly balanced acidity and rich dark berry fruit.
Kermit Lynch 2016 Languedoc Red (Languedoc, France) $12.99 This red blend from the south of France is redolent with scent of violets, dried herbs, cassis and red raspberries. The palate is smooth and enticing, offering black cherry, raspberry and currant fruit flavors, accented by hints of violets, herbs and a kick of peppery spice.
Angeline 2016 Reserve Merlot (Paso Robles) $14.99 This Merlot opens with flavors of fresh blackberries, elderberries and dark plums that lead into black cherry on the mid-palate. Balanced with the rich fruit are soft, supple tannins, backed by complex notes of chicory and clove, finishing with a hint of cocoa dust.
Ancient Peaks 2015 Renegade Red (Paso Robles) $22.99 Renegade exudes heady aromas of cherries, violets, vanilla bean and leather with a hint of baking spice. Juicy black and red fruits mingle on a rich, expansive palate with accents of sage and cedar. Lively, well integrated acidity and smooth tannins lend elegance to this powerful yet very quaffable red.
Masi 2013 Brolo Campofiorin Oro (Veneto, Italy) $24.99 Brolo Campofiorin Oro is a Riserva version of Masi’s popular Ripasso-inspired Campofiorin. The nose has a spicy complexity derived from dried grapes. On the palate, it has a bold and mouthfilling richness, with a complex, layered array of black fruit flavors supported by solid, ripe tannins.
NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:
Castello Monaci 2014 Salice Salentino Riserva (Puglia, Italy) $26.99 Bold, velvety and rich, just like the voice of Pavarotti, this voluptuously delicious blend of 80% Negroamaro and 20% Malvasia Nera shows a perfect harmony of fruit, earth and spices. Salice Salentino is a traditional Puglian wine, a classic product of the sunny, hot Italian south.
Robert Mondavi 2017 Rum Barrel Merlot (Monterey County) $14.99 A portion of this Monterey Merlot was aged in used dark rum barrels. They impart complex nuances of molasses, vanilla and coconut to the wine. It opens with enticing aromas of molasses, maple syrup and black plum. Flavors of ripe plums and blackberries mingle with hints of toasted coconut and toffee on a long, lush finish.
Kings Ridge 2016 Pinot Gris (Willamette Valley) $13.99 Spicy pear and lime aromas greet the nose, complemented by a subtle floral and honey character. On the palate, juicy orchard fruits and zesty citrus flavors strike a fine balance between depth and energy. This finishes fresh and clean, with lingering pear and lime zest tones accented by a crisp mineral essence.
Burton Bridge Brewery India Pale Ale (Staffordshire, England) $6.99 This classic Pale Ale is brewed to replicate the IPAs that were brewed in Burton, England and then shipped to the Empire in India. Bottled only after six months of cask aging, this beer offers a wonderful combination of rich, malty flavors edged with bitter hops and fruity overtones.
Cheers!
