FEATURED WINES THIS WEEK

(Sample all five featured wines for $15 or by the Glass)

Aviana Verdejo 2022 (Spain) $19.99

Lively and refreshing, with a balance of juicy honeysuckle and stony minerality. A bright, youthful wine from Spain. Unlike most whites, Verdejo continues to improve over several years of bottle-aging, where it gains a rich texture and flavors of toasted Marcona almonds, supported by sparkly acidity.
($10 by the glass)

Notorious Wines Infamous Gold Cabernet Blanc 2020 (Vin de France, France) $17.99

The brilliant color is bright, lemony and with golden touches. The pleasant nose is dominated by a fruity bouquet: citrus fruits, exotic and spicy fruits. He is expressive and elegant. The palate tastes like grapefruit, sweet spices (vanilla, cinnamon) and ends with salty notes.
A lot of freshness, vivacity, and greed on this wine, which will be appreciated on Thai cuisine, poultry or as an aperitif.
($10 by the glass)

Silverado Vineyards 2019 Mt. George Merlot (Napa Valley, California) $37.99

The wine hits the palate with a silky, smooth texture and juicy bright red fruits suggesting pomegranate and berries. Well integrated oak, earth, and spice notes complement the fruit and lead to a long cocoa finish. Medium-bodied with fresh, mineral character and silky tannins. Bright and cool on the palate. Balanced and juicy. So approachable and delicious that it’s hard to put down.
($15 by the glass)

DeLille Cellars D2 Red Blend 2021 (Columbia Valley, Washington) $39.99

The 2021 D2 shows the promise of the vintage, with deep concentration and outstanding quality. Initial aromas of blackberry, cassis and green peppercorn lead to a palate bursting with beautiful richness and texture. The high-quality, fine-grained tannins of this wine allow approachability in its youth yet has the firmness and backbone to provide aging for 15+ years. Red currant, Bing Cherry and toasty oak flavors develop with time, leading to a lengthy finish with impressive weight. Cheers to 30 vintages of D2 and many more on the way.
($15 by the glass)

Marques de Riscal 2017 Reserva XR Rioja (Rioja, Spain) $41.99

Deep ruby in the glass, this Tempranillo wine has a nose of blackberry, black cherry, milk chocolate and clove. There is a nice balance of spice and fruit on the palate, with flavors of black currant, pomegranate, clove, licorice, and dark chocolate. Sturdy tannins dissipate into a lengthy finish.
($15 by the glass)

CORAVIN® BY THE GLASS OPTIONS

Beaulieu Vineyard 2019 Georges de Latour Private Reserve (Napa Valley, California) $155.99/Bottle

Wow! The aromas to this are exceptional, with a tangerine edge to the blackcurrants, graphite, lead pencil, flowers, and wet earth. It changes all the time. So expressive and refined. Full-bodied with great intensity and depth of fruit. The ultra-fine tannins display millions of layers. The texture on the palate is superb and lasts for minutes. This is the new 1974 George de Latour, which was a legend. Real Napa Valley red here. Drinkable now, to understand it, but genuinely great in five to six years and onwards.
($32 per glass)

Col Solare Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 (Columbia Valley, Washington) $145.99/Bottle

A study in refinement and elegance, fruit takes a back seat to floral, savory, and mineral elements in the wine’s aromatics of violet, lavender, sage, and subtle black currant. The palate is a velvety mouthfeel and slowly reveals dark-fruit character as it progresses, which lasts long on the palate. This wine will soften with some time.
($30 per glass)

Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 (Alexander Valley, California) $104.99/Bottle

The 2019 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has notes of red cherry, raspberry, blackberry, iris, vanilla, and clove. Ruby in color, this elegant wine has great acidity and lift on the mid-palate. Black currant and warm baking spices linger with a deep and fruity finish. It will provide drinking pleasure through 2047 given proper cellaring. Blend: 95.2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2.5% Cabernet Franc, 1.9% Merlot, 0.4% Petit Verdot.
($25 per glass)

JUSTIN 2019 Isosceles (Paso Robles, California) $89.99/Bottle

Isosceles presents with aromatic notes of ripe blackberry, juicy black plum, and cassis with dried violet, leather, vanilla bean, fresh herbs, camphor, and toasted oak. Full-bodied with baked black cherry pie, fresh mission fig, and black currant on the entry. The midpalate of new leather, fresh wild sage, porcini mushroom, dried black olive, and cedar is carried by balanced freshness and abundant velvety tannins that lead to a long, complex finish of sustained fresh berries, camphor, oak, toasted cinnamon stick, star anise, and dried flowers.
($22 per glass)

DAOU Reserve 2020 Seventeen Forty (Paso Robles, California) $78.99/Bottle

This is a Cabernet Franc driven wine with a harmonious complement of Merlot. Beguiling aromas of blackberry cobbler, raspberry, crème de cassis and cherry pipe tobacco anticipate hints of toasty oak, black licorice, and pencil shaving. Lush and full bodied, this wine bestows rich flavors of cherry, black plum, dark chocolate, and blueberry compote with lovely accents of Zante currant, graphite, and cinnamon. Solid structure and fine-grained tannins support a lengthy, focused finish, leaving notes of plum and boysenberry underscored by cocoa and black truffle.
($20 per glass)

NEW ARRIVALS

Black Stallion Winery Chardonnay 2021 (Napa Valley, California) $25.99

Aromas of yellow pear, lemon curd, jasmine, and a hint of oak lead to flavors of citrus, chamomile, orange blossom and brown butter. A rich mid-palate weight creates a complex wine with a lingering finish. Delicious as an aperitif and excellent with “frutta del mare”: crab, lobster, or grilled shrimp.

Notorious Wines Notorious Pink Rosé 2022 (Vin de France, France) $18.99

Blush pink in color, Notorious Pink is 100% Grenache and inviting with a pleasant under-ripe strawberry, mango, and citrus zest scent with a crisp and refreshing mineral character. This is not as dry as most French rosé wines and can be enjoyed with seafood, vegetables, pastas, and poultry dishes, but easily stands on its own. Perfect for every day in every season.

Coronado Brewing Co. Orange Avenue WIT (San Diego, California) $4.99

A coastal classic since’96, Orange Ave Wit is a refreshing light-bodied wheat beer bolstered by orange zest, coriander, and orange blossom honey. This award-winner is loaded with sunny citrus and a slight hint of sweet honey on the finish. While trendy styles come and go, this California original stays true to its Coronado Island roots.

Cheers!
