Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

This Saturday, April 15th, the Old Town Wine Cellar will present another of our occasional Saturday Afternoon Beer Tastings.  We’ll start at noon and go until 6 PM, with our usual diverse selection of American craft beers as well as imports available to sample for a mere $5 tasting fee.  It’s the best deal in town, and a great way to spend part of a pleasant spring afternoon in Yuma.  We hope to see Saturday!

Kettmeir 2015 Müller-Thurgau (Alto Adige, Italy)    $17.99
Kettmeir has produced wines in the lush northern Italian Alpine region of Alto Adige since 1919. Müller-Thurgau is a hybrid grape created in the late 1800’s.  This wine offers floral scents of acacia and a whiff of stone fruit on the nose.  The vibrant palate offers juicy citrus, white peach, melon and a touch of nutmeg.

Villa Antinori 2013 Toscana Rosso (Tuscany, Italy)    $19.99
Villa Antinori is a Tuscan blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah crafted by the renowned Piero Antinori. The wine’s bouquet offers scents of sweet fruit and a hint of spicy oak.  Black cherry and cassis fruit dominates the palate, with a touch of dark chocolate.

Match Book 2012 Tinto Rey (Dunnigan Hills)    $10.99
Tempranillo is the base of this Mediterranean-style blend. Rich aromas of blueberry, cherry and cedar greet the nose, and flavors of boysenberry and raspberry mix with notes of chocolate truffles and toast in this delicious California red.

Piattelli 2014 Malbec (Mendoza, Argentina)    $15.99
This inky-purple Malbec exudes a bouquet f dark fruits, coffee and freshly-tilled earth. On the palate, flavors of ripe black cherries, blackberries and cassis mingle with smoke, black pepper and light vanilla tones. It’s an elegant, balanced red with a silky texture.

Cameron Hughes 2013 Lot 484 Meritage (Napa Valley)    $18.99
The Cameron Hughes Lot 484 is balanced and elegant, with blackberry, red raspberry and cherry fruit and a pleasant hint of dark chocolate. It’s sleek, smooth and supple in the mouth, showing elements of spice and eucalyptus that enliven the lingering finish.

Waterbrook Reserve Merlot (Columbia Valley)    $22.99
This Columbia Valley Merlot expresses dark, succulent fruit, well-hewn tannins and dramatic spice notes that are accentuated by extended oak aging.  Dark magenta in hue, it exudes aromas of blackberry, cherry, allspice and toasted oak.  Rich flavors of ripe berries and plums dominate the finish.

Whitehall Lane 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, Leonardini Estate (Napa Valley)    $87.99
Leonardini Estate Vineyard in Napa is Whitehall Lane’s original vineyard, and continues to provide their finest fruit.  This vintage sourced from five prime vineyard blocks is focused and perfectly balanced, with black berry, black cherry and plum fruit and polished tannins that carry the wine to a long and silky finish.

Valravn 2014 Old Vine Zinfandel (Sonoma County)    $18.99
Valravn’s Old Vine Sonoma Zin has layers of richness and complexity wrapped round a wild strawberry and raspberry core. The nose has alluring notes of espresso roast, violets and ripe dark fruits. It’s just as rich on the palate, offering flavors of raspberry and blackberry compote, along with notes of vanilla and licorice-laced black pepper.

Glorioso 2008 Rioja Reserva (Rioja, Spain)    $21.99
This Reserva is a deep ruby color with a garnet edge.  The bouquet is redolent of red cherry fruit with a hint of leather and spices.  On the palate, black cherry and brambly ripe berry fruit flavors are nicely uplifted by complex spice and oak tones.
