Greetings from the Wine Cellar:
This Saturday, April 20th, the Yuma Art Center hosts ARTbeat 6, a juried art show and sale here in Old Town on the Main Street Plaza.  ARTbeat is an eclectic mixture of recognized and emerging local, regional and international artists who work in a variety of artistic mediums and styles, including sculpture, painting, jewelry, graphic design, glass, ceramics, photography and mixed media.  This year’s ARTbeat is later than in previous years, running from 4 PM to 9 PM Saturday evening.  “We’re moving the event to early evening to take advantage of the beautiful ambience of Historic Downtown Yuma during the evening hours,” says Rex Ijams, Arts & Culture Program Manager for the Art Center. “ARTbeat expands each year, and we anticipate
another record breaking turnout in 2013
.”  Last year’s show attracted a record 85 artists from throughout Yuma County, as well as Phoenix, El Centro, San Luis Rio Colorado and Baja California.  For more info call the Art Center at (928) 373-5202.
And one last quick note:  Due to popular demand, the Wine Cellar will
present another of our occasional Saturday beer tastings one week from this
coming Saturday, on April 27th.  Details to follow in next week’s Newsletter, but be sure to mark the date if you’ve got a hankering to try some great brews!

:

Murrieta’s Well 2011 The Whip (Livermore Valley)    $19.99
The Whip is a tribute to the great white blends of the world – a sophisticated, yet approachable blend of classic white wine varietals.  Fermented and aged in a combination of stainless steel tanks and older oak barrels, it offers lush aromas and flavors of pears, vanilla, butterscotch and orange blossom, with a balanced, clean finish.
Mazzei 2007 Serrata Belguardo (Tuscany, Italy)    $17.99
Mazzei’s Serrata Belguardo (80% Sangiovese & 20% Alicante) is a rich and balanced red from Tuscany’s coastal Maremma region.  Dark plum fruit, sweet herbs, licorice and hints of old leather mingle in this radiant wine, carried on a polished, silky tannic frame.
Jade Mountain 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa County/Lake
County)    $14.99

This wine is made with fruit sourced from vineyards in Napa and Lake County.  Sunny days and cool nights in these regions develop both fine complexity of flavor and firm, supple tannins in Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.
The ripe fruit-forward quality of this wine is nicely balanced by a pleasant  earthiness.
Miraflores 2010 Barbera (El Dorado County)    $19.99
Black cherry, dark chocolate, toasted oak, vanilla, cedar and an exotic note of alpine forest mingle on the palate of this rich, spicy and full-bodied red.  It offers a good measure of fresh, tangy acidity, typical of this emphatically food-friendly Italian varietal.
Ramon Bilbao 2004 Rioja Gran Reserva (Rioja, Spain)   $22.99
This Reserva offers exotic aromas of vanilla, clove and cinnamon.  A smooth, velvety palate has abundant dark cherry and black plum fruit flavors, plus exotic hints of fresh earth, tobacco and Indian spice that carry to the finish.
Niner 2010 Bootjack Ranch Merlot (Paso Robles)    $22.99
Niner’s 2010 Bootjack Ranch Merlot offers a great blend of the fruitiness of California and the complexity of Bordeaux. The nose offers aromas of wild
berry, dark plum and cherry, plus floral accents. The fruit carries through on
the palate, mixed in with spice notes of lavender, anise, thyme and cedar.
NEW ARRIVALS:
Folie à Deux 2011 Chardonnay (Russian River Valley)    $17.99
This was fermented entirely in French oak barrels to add complexity and develop its rich fruit flavors. After fermentation, it was aged in a mix of French and American oak to attain greater depth and flavor, resulting in a deliciously rich and creamy Chardonnay with an elegant finish.
Frank Family 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)    $49.99
The new vintage has arrived!  This classic, rich Napa Cabernet is a longtime Wine Cellar favorite.  The nose offers scents of ripe blackberry, sweet vanilla and juicy black cherry, plus hints of dusty cedar.  The palate is abundant and lively, packed to the brim with juicy berry and red cherry fruit framed by silky tannins.
Artezin 2007 Petite Sirah (Mendocino County)    $21.99
Vivid, pure blackberry, raspberry and blueberry flavors are terrifically ripe, juicy and deeply concentrated.  Full-bodied tannins manage to stay in the background to let a delicious core of dark fruit flavors swirl on the palate.  Peppery accents enliven the lasting finish.
Cheers!
