Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

This Saturday, April 21st brings ARTbeat 11, the annual juried art show and sale at the Yuma Art Center and the Main Street Plaza here in Historic Downtown.  ARTbeat will showcase an eclectic mix of local and regional artists who work in a variety of artistic mediums and styles, including sculpture, painting, jewelry, graphic design, glass, ceramics, photography and mixed media.  From 4 to 9PM, art displays will be accompanied by live musical performances and a fun party atmosphere on the Plaza, so plan to head downtown Saturday and enjoy some art along with our fantastic Yuma spring weather!

THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING:

Pine Ridge 2016 Chenin Blanc-Viognier (Clarksburg)    $12.99 This blend shows hints of both varietals on the nose, with the honeydew melon character of Chenin Blanc uplifted by a hint of wildflowers from the Viognier.  It’s crisp and fresh in the mouth, with a nice blend of tangy citrus, pear and melon flavors.

Bewitched 2016 Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley)    $22.99 Bewitched is classic Russian River Valley Pinot.  Aromas of dark raspberries and cherries emerge on the nose, with a hint of rose petals. The palate offers rich dark fruit flavors and elements of spice and black tea.  It’s a seductively layered wine with fine acidity and supple tannins.

The Federalist 2014 Honest Red (North Coast)    $14.99 The Honest Red is a mix of 55% Merlot, 30% Zinfandel and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, sourced from premium growing regions in Northern California.  The wine offers a soft and round mouthfeel with a medley of rich dark fruit flavors and a lightly spicy finish.

Altamana 2014 Grand Reserve Malbec (Maule Valley, Chile)    $17.99 Altamana Grand Reserve Malbec offers bright aromas of dark cherry, blackberry, black olive and violets.  In the mouth it’s velvety yet firmly structured, with abundant black cherry, fig and raspberry fruit followed by accents of cocoa, cedar and licorice that frame a muscular finish.

Las Rocas 2013 Garnacha Viñas Viejas (Calatayud, Spain)    $18.99 Conditions are perfect in Spain for the heat-loving Grenache varietal; the result is a wine that offers rich and savory flavors of raspberry, pomegranate and peppery spice. This one came from vines up to 100 years old. It’s a complex red, with subtle mineral notes that reveal the depths that the roots must reach to survive in the stony, parched Spanish soils.

Madrigal 2013 Petite Sirah (Napa Valley)    $29.99 Since the 1930s, three generations of the Madrigal family have farmed vineyards in Napa Valley. Their Petite Sirah is velvety and dense in all the right ways, striking a fine balance between fruit-forwardness and a dense, savory complexity.  Rich blackberry, blueberry and espresso flavors dominate the palate, framed with supple tannins.

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:

Château Saint-André Corbin 2014 St.-Georges-St.-Emilion (Bordeaux, France)    $24.99 This ‘Right Bank’ blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc offers a polished texture and finely layered flavors.  It opens with beautifully perfumed scents of berries, red currants and gentle cinnamon-like spice.  The palate offers a rich mix of black cherry and wild berry fruit.

Beckon 2016 Pinot Noir (Central Coast)    $17.99 Made with fruit sourced from Monterey, San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties, this Pinot Noir exudes lovely black cherry, strawberry and floral aromas.  It’s rich and full in the mouth, with a mixture of dark fruit and exotic spices, and a lengthy cherry-and-spice-filled finish.

Marcarini 2015 Moscato d’Asti (Piedmont, Italy)    $17.99 Marcarini Moscato d’Asti is straw-yellow in color with a bubbling effervescence – a perfect example of Italian Moscato.  Overflowing with luscious notes of ripe orchard fruits, citrus blossom and fresh herbs, this shows fine complexity. It’s pleasantly sweet, with a crisp, elegant and persistent finish.

Huyghe Brewery Delirium Tremens (Belgium)    $14.99 Delirium Tremens pours with an amber-golden color and frothy white head.  The aroma is tropical, with a touch of spices.  The flavors blend elements of dried fruit, like apple, pear and banana, with a light caramel maltiness and a touch of honey.

Cheers!
