Greetings from the Wine Cellar:
Things are warming up quickly marking the end of block party season in Downtown Yuma, however, there is still plenty to do in Downtown with plenty of activities available like the Lutes Summer Jazz Series that kicks off this Friday May 24th from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Whether you are in Downtown to take in a movie, visit the Yuma Art Center, enjoying a nice dinner at one of the many restaurants, or shopping at the great retail options, be sure to stop in the Old Town Wine Cellar to try our Featured Wines of the Week or just enjoy a glass of wine while you cool off from wandering around Downtown.

Le Paradou Viognier 2022 (Provence, France) $16.99/Bottle
A signature variety of the Northern Rhône, Viognier thrives on cooler terroirs at higher elevations in the Southern Rhône. Le Paradou Viognier is made from vines rooted in rocky hillsides of porous limestone soils originating from the Jurassic period, resulting in a mineral Viognier with bright acidity and no flab. It is aged entirely in tank to retain freshness and purity.

Sea Sun 2021 Pinot Noir (California) $19.99/Bottle
The 2021 Sea Sun by Charlie Wagner Pinot Noir is ripe, soft, and smooth on the palate. Aromas of Chia, Fresh berries, a hint of chocolate truffle and forest floor. On the palate, brown spice, fresh blackberry and toasted bread. Carnitas tacos, spicy grilled shrimp, grilled lamb chops, or wild mushroom risotto.

Sassoregale Sangiovese 2021 (Tuscany, Italy) $17.99/Bottle
Its color is bright ruby red. The nose is clean and precise, with hints of Morello cherries, wild berries, and a moderate spiciness. On the palate it reveals a full-bodied, assertive flavor, which expresses both great intensity and elegance. Sassoregale is in its glory as a companion to great cuts of meat, barbecue, rustic Tuscan-style dishes, and slow-cooked roasts.

Dave Phinney Locations ES (Spain) $21.99/Bottle
Locations ES was produced with fruit sourced from 5 regions in Span: Priorat, Jumilla, Toro, Rioja, and Ribera del Duero. This wine opens with aromatic notes of tobacco, cigar box, and ripe plum, and leads to an opulent palate of dark berries, earth, hints of spice, and sweet tobacco with a lengthy, luscious finish.

J. Lohr Hilltop Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 (Paso Robles, California) $32.99/Bottle
Exhilarating blackberry and blueberry aromas are enhanced by crushed violet, herbes de Provence, and spiced tea. On the palate, dense and soft, with finely textured tannins. Juicy layers of black and red currants lead to a bright finish, accented by pastry notes from extended barrel aging.

Dana Estates Onda Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 (Napa Valley, California) $310.99/Bottle
The 2019 Onda Cabernet Sauvignon opens with aromas of blackberries, baking spice, and plum tart. Intermingled with the fruit are notes of coffee and a hint of graphite. Rich fruit with dense flavors of black cherries, plums, and currants layer with graphite and a briny minerality. The velvety mid-palate transitions to flavors of black truffle, brioche, and blackberry on the finish. The predominantly hillside provenance of the grapes lends a broad mouth coating tannin backbone.

Orin Swift Mercury Head Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 (Napa Valley, California) $175.99/Bottle
An almost-black, opaque garnet core sits in the glass with slow-moving tears falling down the sides. Aromatic notes of ripe cassis, charred ribeye, sandalwood and freshly cut oak pilfer — breathe deeper for more. The first sip is a complex, layered conundrum of blackberry, black plum, fennel, licorice, and dark chocolate. More sips peel back the layers to reveal a rich and balanced wine with a deep cassis core. A sweet linger on the finish closes the wine with softly textured chalky tannins. ($35 per glass)
Beaulieu Vineyard 2019 Georges de Latour Private Reserve (Napa Valley, California) $155.99/Bottle
Wow! The aromas are exceptional, with a tangerine edge to the blackcurrants, graphite, lead pencil, flowers, and wet earth. It changes all the time. Full-bodied with great intensity and depth of fruit. The ultra-fine tannins display millions of layers. The texture on the palate is superb and lasts for minutes. This is the new 1974 George de Latour, which was a legend. ($32 per glass)
Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 (Alexander Valley, California) $104.99/Bottle
The 2019 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has notes of red cherry, raspberry, blackberry, iris, vanilla, and clove. Ruby in color, this elegant wine has great acidity and lift on the mid-palate. Black currant and warm baking spices linger with a deep and fruity finish. It will provide drinking pleasure through 2047 given proper cellaring. Blend: 95.2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2.5% Cabernet Franc, 1.9% Merlot, 0.4% Petit Verdot. ($25 per glass)
JUSTIN 2019 Isosceles (Paso Robles, California) $89.99/Bottle
Isosceles presents with aromatic notes of ripe blackberry, juicy black plum, and cassis with dried violet, leather, vanilla bean, fresh herbs, camphor, and toasted oak. Full-bodied with baked black cherry pie, fresh mission fig, and black currant on the entry. The midpalate of new leather, fresh wild sage, porcini mushroom, dried black olive, and cedar is carried by balanced freshness and abundant velvety tannins that lead to a long, complex finish of sustained fresh berries, camphor, oak, toasted cinnamon stick, star anise, and dried flowers. DAOU Reserve 2020 Seventeen Forty (Paso Robles, California) $78.99/Bottle
This is a Cabernet Franc driven wine with a harmonious complement of Merlot. Beguiling aromas of blackberry cobbler, raspberry, crème de cassis and cherry pipe tobacco anticipate hints of toasty oak, black licorice, and pencil shaving. Lush and full bodied, this wine bestows rich flavors of cherry, black plum, dark chocolate, and blueberry compote with lovely accents of Zante currant, graphite, and cinnamon. Solid structure and fine-grained tannins support a lengthy, focused finish, leaving notes of plum and boysenberry underscored by cocoa and black truffle.

NEW ARRIVALS
Orin Swift Cellars Palermo Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 (Napa Valley, California) $67.99
A dark garnet, this wine opens with aromas of ripe cassis and blackberry. and hints of dark chocolate, toasted oak and cedar support the typical Orin Swift Cabernet Sauvignon nose. The entry is flooded with notes of dark fruits and a mid-palate bolstered with redcurrant, bay leaf, and a reemergence of cassis. The wine is full-bodied and nicely balanced, with a firmness matched by softness. It’s just a nice drink overall. Best After 2023.
Montes Alpha Series Carmenère 2021 (Colchagua Valley, Chile) $22.99
Deep purplish red in color. The intense nose offers pleasing notes of ripe blackberries, figs, and dried plums. Spicy notes of nutmeg and black pepper complement a backdrop of tobacco, leather, and a subtle hint balsamic and dark chocolate aroma. The palate is well balanced, lush, and structured, with soft tannins that lead to a long and very elegant finish. Pair with red meats, stir-fried beef and vegetables, pork chops, spaghetti with Bolognese sauce, lamb chops, and mushroom ravioli.
Beronia Rosé 2022 (Rioja, Spain) $15.99
The Beronia 2020 Rosé is a 50/50 blend of Tempranillo and Garnacha. Delicate shell pink in color and a floral bouquet with distinct notes of cherry fruit and rose petals. Fresh and delicately flavored with soft, berry fruits along with mineral and spicy flavors for a lingering zesty finish. Ideal as an aperitif or with lightly flavored dishes like rice dishes, fresh fish, or sea food.
