THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING:
Bolla 2012 Soave Classico 883 Selection (Veneto, Italy) $11.99
This is made with 100% Garganega grapes sourced from hillside vineyards in the heart of the Soave Classico region. It’s a wonderfully crisp and clean white with an intense bouquet of fresh fruit and wild flowers, and a palate of juicy apricot and peach flavors with accents of citrus.
Folie à Deux 2014 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) $19.99
Folie à Deux Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir begins with intense aromas of ripe plum, dark cherry and raspberry followed up by subtle accents of earthy truffle and spice. Precise and clean, this shows an alluring palate of ripe black cherry and plum fruit edged with a subtle hint of tobacco leaf.
Vigneti del Salento 2012 I Muri Negroamaro (Puglia, Italy) $14.99
The baking hot sun of the Italian south comes through in this rich and earthy red, with its smoky nose and robust palate redolent of dark plums, stewed figs and peppery spice. Negroamaro is an ancient varietal native to Puglia, a fantastic partner with richly flavored Italian dishes.
Yangarra 2012 Estate Shiraz (McLaren Vale, Australia) $17.99
Rich and velvety, this plush-textured Aussie Shiraz overflows with ripe blackberry and plum fruit flavors, complemented by notes of dark chocolate and minty eucalyptus. Complex spice notes intermingle on the concentrated, succulent palate, and the juicy finish goes on and on.
Beringer 2014 Merlot (Napa Valley) $19.99
Beringer Napa Merlot offers a ripe, juicy core of blackberry, plum and dark cherry fruit. Firm and dry yet elegantly styled, the wine shows elements of rich spice that accent the fruit and add complexity. The round, soft finish carries a light touch of vanilla.
Miraflores 2013 Yellow Block Zinfandel (El Dorado County) $29.99
This is a dense, layered and complex Sierra Foothills Zin that’s packed with deep, rich fruit. Scents of black currant and bittersweet chocolate lead to complex black cherry, fresh anise and white pepper flavors. The tannins are ripe but remain powerful through a lengthy finish.
NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:
Morgan 2014 Double L Chardonnay (Santa Lucia Highlands) $39.99
A classic Santa Lucia Highlands Chardonnay, the Morgan Double L offers aromas of crème brûlée, Asian pear, hazelnut, and ’Nilla wafer, backed by notes of sweet spices and toasted oak. Juicy pineapple, vanilla and lemon curd flavors are carried on a superbly rich creamy texture, supported by elegant, bright acidity.
Skyfall Vineyard 2014 Red Blend (Columbia Valley) $15.99
A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, this has a blueberry and sweet oak bouquet, plus a touch of black currants. The palate is medium in body, nicely balanced and packed with fruit, with flavors of ripe blackberry and black cherry, toasty oak and hints of dark chocolate and vanilla.
Archimedes 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon (Alexander Valley) $59.99
This Cabernet fills the senses with deep and fully ripe blackberry, cassis and black cherry aromas and flavors, edged by hints of violet, tobacco and old leather. The wine expands across the palate in broad, rich flavors, with a firm structure of polished tannins. Hints of spice and cedar linger on the intense finish.
Ballast Point Black Marlin Porter (San Diego) $5.99
Ballast Point’s Black Marlin is a hoppy twist on the classic English Porter. It’s crafted from a unique blend of roasted and crystallized malts to achieve a rich, smooth chocolate-caramel flavor profile. Then plenty of American hops complete this beer’s robust, flavorful character.
Cheers!
