Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

This Thursday, May 5th, we’re celebrating National Nurses Week at the Wine Cellar with a special invitation to all of the dedicated and hardworking nurses here in Yuma to enjoy our wine tasting free of charge from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, courtesy of Yuma Investment Group, a locally owned, full-service Personal Financial Planning & Wealth Management Firm.  But naturally the offer also extends to all other Wine Cellar attendees Thursday evening from 5 to 7, so drop by if you can, raise a toast to our great nurses, and enjoy a sampling of this week’s wines free of charge!

…and then on Friday, May 6th, Yuma Heritage Festivals presents their annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta right here in Historic Downtown.  The Main Street Plaza will have live music, margaritas, sangria and cerveza, an assortment of food vendors, salsa contests and everything else you need for a rousing Cinco de Mayo celebration.  Admission is free, the party kicks off at 6 PM and keeps on going until 11PM, so come on downtown Friday evening and join the fiesta!

THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING):

Mer Soleil 2014 Reserve Chardonnay (Santa Lucia Highlands)    $24.99
In every vintage, Mer Soleil is among California’s richest and most distinctive Chardonnays. The 2014 offers a full, lush mouthfeel with bright flavors of apricot jam, crème brûlée and toasty butterscotch, but for all the opulence, it’s fully dry with zesty acidity that balances a creamy finish.

Selbach 2014 Riesling Spatlese (Saar, Germany)    $21.99
This Riesling rushes the palate with explosive white peach, apple, pear and citrus flavors, plus hints of red fruits and a touch of banana. A vivid thread of stony minerality and spritzy, tongue-tingling acidity unfolds to complete the package. It’s a wine that tastes like pure nature…

Cantina Zaccagnini 2012 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo (Abruzzo, Italy)    $14.99
This native southern Italian red is an intense ruby red in hue, with a rich bouquet of blackberries and flowers.  The flavors are lavish and rich; a mix of dark cherries and plums with elements of rhubarb, cocoa and coffee.  The mouthfeel is velvet soft, with mellow tannins.

Lindeman’s 2014 Gentleman’s Collection Red (California)    $15.99
Gentleman’s Collection Red is a dense and juicy, decidedly fruit-forward California blend of Petite Sirah, Zinfandel and Merlot, sourced from select Central Coast and North Coast vineyards.  It’s a palate-pleasing sipper with no hard edges and a fresh, fruit-filled finish.

Cultivate The Feast 2010 California Red    $19.99
Made with premium fruit sourced from the Napa Valley, Alexander Valley and Santa Lucia Highlands, Cultivate The Feast is a rich and soft, yet well-structured Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec. Deep berry and dark plum fruit flavors last nicely through a long and velvety finish.

Bodegas Peñafiel 2008 miros de ribera Reserva (Ribera del Duero, Spain)    $23.99
This 100% Tempranillo wine aged in French oak barrels for 24 months, and then in bottle for another 20 months prior to release. Deeply scented tones of ripe dark fruits, cedar and freshly roasted coffee lead to layers of ripe dark plum and black currant fruit flavors.

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:

Broadside 2013 Margarita Vineyard Merlot (Paso Robles)    $21.99
Broadside’s Margarita Vineyard Merlot has a fabulously deep nose, offering vivid cassis aromas edged with notes of coffee, fennel and sage.  Lush layers of ripe dark fruit are wrapped in a lovely acidity and tied up with tannins that seem as smooth as silk.  This is a wine that delivers wonderfully rich flavors with a surprising degree of finesse.

Altovinum Evodia 2014 Old Vines Garnacha (Calatayud, Spain)    $11.99
Garnacha (or Grenache) is peppery, zesty and loaded with fresh raspberry fruit.  This one exudes fresh aromas of black cherries and crushed raspberries. In the mouth, it’s soft and round, with ripe red raspberry and cherry fruit plus a light touch of toasty oak.

Deschutes Brewery The Abyss Rye Whiskey Stout (Bend, Oregon)    $25.99
To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of The Abyss, Deschutes Brewery created this 100% Rye Whiskey barrel-aged edition. It’s a very limited release, brewed with blackstrap molasses, licorice, vanilla bean and cherry bark.  A complex flavor profile of dark chocolate, maraschino cherry, vanilla and coffee shows an intriguing hint of rye whiskey on the finish.

Cheers!
