Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

This Wednesday, May 10th, we’ll celebrate National Nurses Week at the Wine Cellar with a special invitation to all of the dedicated, hardworking nurses here in Yuma to enjoy our wine tasting free of charge from 5:30 to 7:30 PM, courtesy of Yuma Investment Group, a locally owned, full-service Personal Financial Planning & Wealth Management Firm.  But the offer also extends to all other Wine Cellar wine-tasting attendees Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 7:30, so drop by if you can, raise a toast to our nurses and enjoy this week’s wine tasting free of charge!

THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING:

Bischöfliche Weingüter 2014 Riesling Kabinett Piesporter Goldtröpfchen (Mosel Valley, Germany)    $22.99 Zesty evergreen and herb notes lend fine freshness to flavors of Meyer lemon and nectarine in this Mosel Riesling.  The palate builds in floral, fruity intensity. The wine is delicately sweet, yet brisk in citrusy acidity, with a refreshingly clean finish.

J Lohr 2014 Falcon’s Perch Pinot Noir (Monterey County)    $16.99 Falcon’s Perch is a blend of 76% Pinot Noir and 24% Valdiguié. The nose offers aromas of dark berries, rose petals and exotic spices.  It’s delicious and seductive, with dark cherry and berry flavors plus complimentary notes of spice, anise and oak toast.

Lindeman’s 2014 Gentleman’s Collection Red (California)    $15.99 Gentleman’s Collection Red is a dense and juicy, decidedly fruit-forward California blend of Petite Sirah, Zinfandel and Merlot, sourced from select Central Coast and North Coast vineyards.  It’s a palate-pleasing sipper with no hard edges and a fresh, fruit-filled finish.

Rancho Sisquoc 2014 River Red (Santa Barbara County)    $17.99 The River Red is a blend of 8 different grapes, all estate-grown at Rancho Sisquoc. It offers powerful clove and spice notes at first taste, plus a dark chocolate accent.  Sweet red cherry fruit and edgy tannins are balanced by a light espresso bite, with a nice touch of oak toast at the finish.

Izadi 2011 Rioja Reserva (Rioja, Spain)    $19.99 This Reserva show a deep ruby in the glass, offering a nose of ripe cherries and violets plus hints of spice and vanilla. Rich dark fruit flavors and exotic touches of leather and cedar predominate on the palate, well framed by firm tannins.

Taken 2014 Cabernet-Merlot (Napa Valley)    $29.99 The Taken Red is a Napa blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. It’s a rich and full-throttle wine, with a juicy flamboyance supported by fine depth and elegance.  Intense aromas and flavors of ripe blackberries and blueberries mingle with accents of chocolate and espresso.

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:

Bodega Colomé 2013 Estate Malbec (Calchaqui Valley, Argentina)    $24.99 This high-altitude Malbec exudes complex aromas of cassis liqueur, wild blackberries, coffee beans and dried herbs.  It’s superbly fine-grained and plush in the mouth without seeming too heavy; balanced acidity gives it a vibrant quality.  Well-structured tannins make it a superb partner with grilled meats.

Oberon 2014 Merlot (Napa Valley)    $19.99 This Napa Merlot offers aromas of exotic spice, ripe plums and toasty vanillin oak, followed by a supple palate packed with flavors of dark plums and black cherries and overtones of dark chocolate.  A long, satisfying finish completes the package.

King Estate 2015 Pinot Gris (Willamette Valley)    $19.99 This is a vibrant and delicious Pinot Gris with a fine mineral edge. A fragrant nose of Bosc pears, ripe peaches and orange blossoms reminiscent of a fragrant citrus grove leads into a flavorful palate of lush white peach and citrus zest. The wine is juicy, rich and elegant, with crisp acidity.

Coronado Brewing Conquista IPA (San Diego)    $7.99 Conquista IPA is a collaboration between Coronado and Cigar City Brewing. The beer showcases the recently introduced German hop, Polaris, known for its high alpha acids and distinct pineapple and herbal notes.  It makes for one refreshing and satisfying brew.

Cheers!
