Greetings from the Wine Cellar:
Re-opening continues apace in Yuma, but the Old Town Wine Cellar is not quite ready to join in yet with regard to pouring wines again here in the Cellar. We’re just completing some alterations to the layout of the shop that I think will really enhance everyone’s safe enjoyment of the facility once we get going officially right after Memorial Day, and there will be some changes in the format for pouring wines here in the Cellar as well to maximize safety for our patrons while we are all are still dealing with the ongoing situation of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the meantime, we are of course still open for regular retail wine and beer sales, with our normal schedule of 11AM to 7PM Tuesday – Friday and 10AM to 6PM on Saturday, and we will continue to offer curbside pickup for those who prefer not to come inside – just call ahead (373-0405). So please be patient – we’re almost there!
NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:
Martinelli Winery 2013 Martinelli Road Zinfandel (Russian River Valley) $24.99 Sourced from a vineyard planted in 1880, this classic old vine Zin is a bright garnet hue in the glass, exuding rich aromas of brambly dark fruit, cloves and spicy, toasty oak on the nose. The palate is beautifully focused, with ripe blackberry and spiced cherry fruit flavors and softly structured tannins.
Castello di Gabbiano 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva Cavaliere d’Oro (Tuscany, Italy) $18.99 Cavaliere d’Oro is a deep ruby in color, exuding floral scents of violets along with aromas of cherry jam. The palate is full-bodied and complex, with a rich core of black cherry and plum that melds with savory accents of fragrant wood smoke and licorice that extend through a long and satisfying finish.
The Walking Dead 2016 California Cabernet Sauvignon $8.99 Don’t let this wine catch you unaware! The Walking Dead Cabernet Sauvignon opens with notes of blackberry with nutmeg and mocha spice. This full-bodied red reveals flavors of black cherry and currant that pool on the palate, giving way to savory elements of mocha, spice and toast.
Chateau Cruzeau 2012 Pessac-Léognan (Bordeaux, France) $24.99 This blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc opens up with rich aromas of crushed berries, sweet tobacco, cedar and dark chocolate. The palate delivers an array of ripe dark fruit flavors, with touches of coffee, toasted oak and spice supported by a smooth and well-balanced tannic structure.
Cheers!
