Greetings from the Wine Cellar:
It’s officially summer in Yuma, and as always the Yuma Art Center / Historic Yuma Theatre (254 S. Main St.) has arranged for a six-pack to help you through the hot weather.  That would be the 2012 “Summer Six Pack
of great entertainment in historic downtown Yuma.  The Old Town Wine Cellar will keep you apprised of the schedule as the summer progresses, but be aware that the first event in this year’s Six Pack comes this very Friday, June 1st with “Bieber Fever,” a tribute concert in honor of the (great?) Justin Bieber.  It’s being touted as the next best thing to the real deal, with Levi Mitchell performing his “unbelievable impersonation of the singing teenage heart-throb!”  Hey, it’s bound to be a fun show, and a portion of the proceeds will go to the Yuma Boys & Girls Club.  General admission tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids 14 years of age or younger, plus there will be “VIP / Meet & Greet” tickets available at $15 ($10 for ages 14 and under.)  The show begins at 7:00 PM.  Catch that Bieber Fever!

THURSDAY & FRIDAY WINE TASTING$10.00 to try them all, or
$10.00 for a full glass
:

Trivento 2010 Torrontés Reserva (Mendoza, Argentina)    $9.99
Torrontés makes a deliciously fresh, crisp and aromatic wine, and it’s the signature white of Argentina.  This one is full of the typical lively and juicy tropical, citrus and floral flavors that are the trademark of the varietal.  If this isn’t the perfect summer white for Yuma, it must be in the top five…
Mas de la Dame 2011 Rosé du Mas (Les Baux de Provence, France)    $16.99
This is a dry yet surprisingly plush rosé, with a creamy texture and juicy
cherry, peach and melon flavors.  Aromas of rose petals and red currants emerge on the nose, with light spice and pepper tones accenting the brightly ripe fruit on the palate.  A blend of Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault.
Match Book 2007 Tinto Rey (Dunnigan Hills)    $15.99
Tempranillo and Graciano grapes contribute spicy red berry fruit flavors; Syrah adds rich flavors of black cherry and blueberry.  Cool-climate Cabernet Sauvignon gives it a spicy cedar and herbal lift, and a touch of Petite Sirah adds a pleasant note of peppery spice.

Terre de Trinci 2009 Cajo (Umbria, Italy) $17.99
The Cajo is an Umbrian blend of Sagrantino, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The wine is aged for 18 months in barrel and 6 months in bottle prior to release.  The result is a rich and satisfying red, with a striking mix of floral and blackberry fruit flavors framed with firm, gripping tannins.
Château Maris 2008 La Touge Syrah, Cru La Livinière (Minervois, France)   $24.99
La Touge is a blend of 85% Syrah and 15% Grenache, grown on limestone and alluvial soils.  The nose exhibits rich aromas of ripe black fruits plus spicy characteristics of pepper and dry herbs. The full-fruited palate has generous weight, framed by strong, yet silky tannins.
Girard 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)    $29.99
This vintage showcases the forward, ripe rich fruit and polished tannins that Napa Valley is famous for.  On the nose, juicy blackberry and currant fruit tones mix with hints of sage, anise, cocoa and mint.  A full-bodied palate
exhibits fine but firm tannins, providing a nice counterpoint to the abundant
fruit.
NEW ARRIVALS:
Miraflores 2009 Petite Sirah (El Dorado County)    $21.99
Deep licorice aromas, exuberant ripeness and a nice note of black pepper
rise from the glass.  Soft on the entry, this spreads out wide on the palate, coating the mouth completely and leaving ripe blackberry and blueberry flavors on a lasting finish.

Jade Mountain 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa County/Lake County)   $12.99
This wine is made with fruit sourced from vineyards in Napa and the
neighboring Lake County.  Sunny days and cool nights in these regions develop both fine complexity of flavor and firm, supple tannins in Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.  The ripe fruit-forward quality of this wine is nicely balanced by a pleasant touch of earthiness.
De Loach 2008 O·F·S Chardonnay (Russian River Valley)   $24.99
Vinted with hand-harvested fruit sourced from premier locations in the
Russian River Valley.  The wine is aged “sur lies” in French oak for nine months, with only the finest lots selected to be included in the O·F·S Chardonnay.  This finely balanced and supremely elegant wine brings together elements of tangy lemon zest, crisp fresh Fuji apples and a rich touch of toasted vanilla bean.
Ska Brewing Decadent Imperial I.P.A. (Durango, Colorado)   $6.99
Decadent Imperial I.P.A. is a bright amber-red in color, with a nose that’s redolent of hops, citrus and spices.  On the palate it’s rich, full-bodied and strong, almost like an India Pale Ale blended with a barley wine.
Cheers!
