Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

The Lutes’ Summer Jazz Series continues this week just down the street at Lutes’ Casino (221 S. Main) with the Yuma Jazz Company Quintet in concert Friday evening at 7 PM.  This week’s show will feature a “Trumpet Summit” with guest performances by Amanda Dallabetta, Michael Harig, Bryan Stewart and Randy Wright playing along with the regular members of the Quintet.  There’s no cover charge for these live performances, presented by Lutes’ and Yuma’s Public Radio Station KAWC.  Beat the heat with some hot tunes – hope you can make it downtown Friday!

THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING:

Livio Felluga 2015 Pinot Grigio (Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy)    $22.99 This is a full-bodied style of Pinot Grigio that opens with clean, bright aromas of apples, pears and citrus fruits. It’s fresh and lively on the palate, yet surprisingly supple, with crisp apple and peach fruit flavors edged with a complex minerality.

Pali 2016 Riviera Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast)    $18.99 Pali’s Riviera is made with fruit sourced from two vineyards in the Sonoma Coast AVA: their own in the southeastern corner of the AVA and another family-owned vineyard in the Russian River Valley.  It was fermented in small lots and barrel-aged in 30% new French oak for eight months.

Finca Las Moras 2016 Barrel Select Malbec (Mendoza, Argentina)    $12.99 The Finca Las Moras Barrel Select is a fresh and uncomplicated take on Argentina’s favorite red.  It opens with jazzy notes of blackberries and plums, laced with light accents of smoke and spice.  The palate is full-bodied and rich, delivering a juicy mouthful of dark fruit flavors.

Ancient Peaks 2015 Zinfandel (Paso Robles)    $17.99 Sourced from the Santa Margarita Ranch Vineyard, this Zin offers enticing aromas of raspberries and white pepper. The palate is chewy and fruit-packed, with flavors of blackberry jam and dark cherry plus complex hints of vanilla, caramel and cola.  Spice notes mingle on a rich finish.

Bogle 2014 Phantom California Red    $19.99 Bogle’s Phantom Red is a blend of Petite Sirah, Zinfandel and Mourvedre grapes sourced from really old vines.  It offers concentrated red raspberry, dark chocolate and red and black currant flavors, framed by accents of cedar and vanilla. This is one big, bold mouthful of fruit…

Campo al Mare 2015 Bolgheri Rosso (Tuscany, Italy)    $29.99 This sleek and elegant ‘Bordeaux-style’ blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot is made with grapes from estate vineyards located near the village of Bolgheri on the Tuscan coastline.  .  The nose exudes aromas of blackberries and currants, edged by tones of spices and flowers.  The palate is rich and smooth, with polished tannins.

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:

Orin Swift 2014 Others Grenache (Côtes Catalanes, France)    $27.99 Others is made at Orin Swift’s Dept. 66 winery, in the foothills of the Pyrénées-Orientales Mountains.  The wine has a ruby-purple opaque hue with aromas of licorice, wild flowers, toast, and sweet vanilla.  On the palate, abundant flavors of blackberry, raspberry, pepper and spices are intense and concentrated, with a lasting finish.

Sequoia Grove 2016 Sauvignon Blanc (Napa Valley)    $17.99 The 2016 Sequoia Grove Sauvignon Blanc has a fine minerality that’s intermixed with aromas and flavors of tropical fruits, melon and a bracing citrus element. Bright acidity harmonizes perfectly with aging in neutral oak that adds a rich fullness to the texture.

Miraflores 2014 Grenache (El Dorado County)    $22.99 This begins with a classic bouquet of red raspberries, white pepper and herbes de Provence.  On the palate a delicious mix of dark raspberry fruit and savory licorice tones are carried on a smooth tannic frame.  The fruit stays vivid and fresh through a long, spice-driven finish.

Mother Road Brewing Tower Station IPA (Flagstaff)    $3.99 Mother Road Brewing is proud to introduce Tower Station IPA, their first beer released in cans!  Tower Station is an unfiltered IPA that greets you with a copper-orange hue and fluffy white head, releasing aromas of tangerine and pineapple.  Pilsner and Pale malts balance hop-derived flavors of grapefruit peel and pine to finish the journey.

Cheers!
