Greetings from the Wine Cellar:
This Friday and Saturday evening, August 1st & 2nd, Yuma’s Infinite Imagination Youth Theater presents HAIRSPRAY JR. The press-kit describes it as “a family-friendly musical, piled bouffant-high with laughter, romance and deliriously tuneful songs, adapted from the Original Broadway Version which won 8 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. You just can’t stop the beat in this big and bold musical about one girl’s inspiring dream to dance.” The show goes on at 7PM both evenings at the Historic Yuma Theatre across the street here in downtown (254 S. Main). Tickets are just $5, call the Yuma Art Center at 373-5202 for more info. Sounds like a great way to relieve the summer doldrums as we head into August!
THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING:

Premium grapes sourced from Russian River Valley and Monterey County vineyards create a refined and expressive Pinot. Floral aromas of violets mingle with scents of raspberries on the nose. The mouthfeel is silky and elegant, with rich flavors of black cherries and currants.
Alto•Cinco 2011 Garnacha (Paniza, Spain) $12.99
Alto·Cinco is 94% Garnacha from very old vines, plus 6% Tempranillo. The wine tastes of ripe strawberries, red cherries and raspberries, along with floral hints of violets and rose petals that complement a toasty dollop mocha and vanilla at the finish.
Luigi Righetti 2010 Valpolicella Ripasso Campolieti (Veneto, Italy) $18.99
The Campolieti is a full-bodied, velvety and harmonious red, with an enticing bouquet of dark cherry fruit and cinnamon-tinged spice. A rich, sumptuous palate of ripe black cherry and plum fruit is accented with hints of dark chocolate and toasted almonds.
Quivira 2011 Zinfandel (Dry Creek Valley) $21.99
A brambly, berry-driven palate offers not only the classic Dry Creek red raspberry character but also rich dark cherry and blackberry fruit accented by a touch of baking spices and a light kiss of oak.
Stratton Lummis 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) $24.99
This comes from the heart of the Napa Valley, a compilation of fruit sourced from top vineyard sites in the Oakville and Rutherford districts. On the nose, aromas of cassis mix with hints of chocolate. A rich array of dark fruit flavors saturate the palate, with mild acidity and a silky mouthfeel.
NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:
Ritual 2012 Pinot Noir (Casablanca Valley, Chile) $17.99
Sourced from Chile’s cool Casablanca Valley, this offers fresh scents of cherry, raspberry and strawberry, complemented by subtle toast notes. Vibrant flavors of cherry and raspberry, silky tannins, fresh acidity and a lengthy finish make this a truly elegant Pinot Noir, yet with fine density and richness.
Amavi Cellars 2011 Syrah (Walla Walla Valley) $29.99
This Washington Syrah opens with bright red currant, plum and spice-box aromas. In the mouth it’s velvety and round, showing a solid tannic structure and enough snappy acidity to balance its rich fruit core all the way through a long finish.
Northwest Brewing MangoWeizen (Pacific, Washington) $4.99
This Pacific Northwest wheat beer offers a wonderfully refreshing character that’s enhanced by subtle aromas and flavors of ripe mangos. It’s brewed using 50% wheat malt, plus premium barley malts and Saaz hops. It’s a great match for barbecue, and a really nice quaffing beer on hot summer days!
