Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

This coming Saturday, August 15th, we’ll celebrate reaching the half-way mark of August with another Saturday Afternoon Beer Tasting here at the Old Town Wine Cellar.  The tasting fee is just $5, and all of the beers will be available by the glass as well.  We go from noon to 5 PM, so get down to Historic Downtown this weekend and sample some great brew at the Cellar!

THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING:

Rutherford Ranch 2013 Chardonnay (Napa Valley)    $16.99
This is classic California Chardonnay, with floral and fruit scents of pineapple, apricot, lemon meringue and apple complemented by notes of hazelnut and spice.  It’s buttery and rich on the palate, with fresh, juicy fruit plus a note of spicy vanilla from oak aging.

Bogle 2013 California Pinot Noir    $9.99
Premium grapes sourced from Russian River Valley and Monterey County vineyards create a refined and expressive Pinot.  Floral aromas of violets mingle with scents of raspberries on the nose.  The mouthfeel is silky and elegant, with rich flavors of black cherries and currants.

Colavita 2011 Valpolicella Ripasso (Veneto, Italy)    $14.99
Ripasso is a northern Italian red made from partially-dried grapes.  This is a blend of the native Corvina, Rondinella and Corvinone grapes.  The warm, Adriatic coastal plains and river valleys of the region are ideal for creating wines with memorably rich, savory flavors.

Manteo 2012 Red Blend (Sonoma County)    $17.99
A selection of fruit from vineyards located thoughout Sonoma County, the debut vintage of Manteo shows fine depth and richness and balanced flavors of boysenberry, black cherry and cassis.  A blend of the Bordeaux varietals Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot, along with Syrah, Petite Sirah and Zinfandel grapes.

Rutherford Ranch 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)    $19.99
This Napa Cab opens with lush aromas of blackberry, black currant and plum.  In the mouth, rich fruit flavors of ripe black cherry and black raspberries abound.  That plush, fruity core is accented by a delicious touch of vanilla on a lengthy and satisfying finish.

Trinchero Family 2010 Merlot, Chicken Ranch Vineyard (Napa Valley)    $29.99
Ideally situated on the northern edge of the Rutherford appellation, Trinchero’s 28-acre Chicken Ranch Vineyard yields elegant and distinctive Merlot.  The 2010 release is an Old World style of the varietal, with raspberry and cigar-box aromas, rich red fruit flavors and structured tannins.

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:

Summers Estate 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley    $31.99
This Cabernet Sauvignon is produced with fruit sourced from select vineyard sites in Napa’s Calistoga appellation, including the Summers’ own Villa Andriana vineyard.  It’s an elegant and balanced wine with sweet dark cherry and black currant notes interwoven with nuances of dark chocolate and espresso.

Three Knights 2012 Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley)    $17.99
Fragrant, floral and redolent of dark cherry fruit, this exhibits all the delicacy and allure of this classic varietal.  Notes of rose petal, caramel and forest floor weave through the deep, rich dark-fruit core. The palate is well balanced and silky, framed by soft tannins.

Gran Passione 2010 Salice Salentino (Puglia, Italy)    $12.99
Made from native Negroamaro grapes in Puglia, the southern “boot-heel” of Italy, this is a bold and robust red, perfect with richly flavored dishes.  Almost black in color, it offers aromas of black cherries, spices, licorice and flowers.  The full-bodied, powerful palate has a velvety texture, with rich, warm flavors of roast plums, figs and peppery spices.

Cheers!
