We’ve finally reached the home stretch of summer here in Yuma – the first Block Party of the season in Historic Downtown will take place this Friday evening, August 19th. Celebrate the Heat on Yuma’s Main Street! by Yuma Heritage Festivals has become an annual downtown tradition that celebrates our potent summers here in the great Southwest. Per the Heritage Festivals folks, here’s what you can expect this time:

Classic Car Show sponsored City of Yuma Firefighters
Free watermelon slices sponsored by Bare Naked Soap Company.
A frozen playground sponsored by Western Arizona Council of Govts and ReddyIce.
A variety of food vendors as well as our great Downtown Yuma restaurants.
Keep cool as you enjoy the festivities with a light mist provided by the City of Yuma Fire Department.

We all know we’ve got lots of summer here in our corner of the world; might as well celebrate it. The Block Party goes from 6 to 11PM, so stick around after you’ve chilled out tasting some great wines in our cool Wine Cellar, and enjoy the heat on the Main Street Plaza!
THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING:
Landmark Overlook 2013 Chardonnay (Sonoma County) $19.99
The 2013 Overlook Chardonnay has a bright gold color with complex aromas of ripe pear, Meyer lemon, sage and lemon curd. On the palate, upfront flavors of quince, Bosc pear, apricot and piecrust mingle with lively citrus notes in this crisply refreshing, elegant wine.
Byron 2014 Neilson Pinot Noir (Santa Barbara County) $18.99
Sourced from three Santa Barbara County appellations, Santa Rita Hills, Los Alamos and Santa Maria Valley, this offers fragrant aromas of dark cherries with an overlay of seasoned oak. The flavor profile is a core of rich black fruits edged by elements of earth and spice, with moderate tannins.
Goose Ridge 2011 G3 Red Wine Blend (Columbia Valley) $14.99
Goose Ridge Estate is a family-owned and operated winery dedicated to producing handcrafted, limited production wines from only estate-grown fruit. The G3 Blend is a classic Bordeaux-style compilation of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot along with other red varietals.
Zaca Mesa 2011 Estate Syrah (Santa Ynez Valley) $17.99
Zaca Mesa is totally dedicated to producing Rhone-style wines; they were the first to plant Syrah in Santa Barbara County back in 1978. This Syrah shows a vivid blackberry, white pepper and mocha character, with notes of dried sage. It’s a classic match with hearty grilled and roasted meat dishes.
Celler de Capçanes 2011 Costers del Gravet (Montsant, Spain) $19.99
Costers del Gravet is a rich and full-bodied wine, with characteristic red raspberry and black fruit flavors of the local Garnacha and Samsó grapes. 50% Cabernet Sauvignon contributes structure and elegance, enhanced by aging for 12 months in French oak.
Twenty Rows 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) $22.99
Twenty Rows Napa Cabernet is made with select grapes from Valley districts such as Mt Veeder, Oak Knoll and Coombsville. It’s an intense, deeply colored wine with concentrated aromas and flavors. Entirely approachable now, the wine is loaded with black cherry and black currant fruit, accented by notes of cedar and espresso.
NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:
Macrostie 2012 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) $24.99
MacRostie’s 2012 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir opens with intense aromas of ripe plum, dark cherry and raspberry followed by subtle hints of earthy truffle and spice. Precise and clean, the wine offers a pleasing palate of ripe dark cherry fruit edged with a note of tobacco leaf.
Sassoregale 2014 Sangiovese (Tuscany, Italy) $15.99
A perfect expression of Tuscan Sangiovese, this offers classic varietal aromas of spiced dark cherries accented by a subtle hints of herbs and earth. The palate is a bath of sweet red currants supported by fine, gripping tannins, finishing with a persistent, savory richness.
Franciscan Estate 2014 Equilibrium (Napa Valley) $17.99
The Equilibrium blends Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay with a smaller portion of Muscat to create a vibrant wine. An alluring bouquet offers notes of lime, honeysuckle and peach. Mineral notes mix with jasmine and passionfruit flavors in this crisp and refreshing white.
