THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING:

Sterling Vineyards 2014 Sauvignon Blanc (Napa County)    $13.99 This Napa Sauvignon Blanc is zesty, zippy and mouthwatering; vibrant with citrus, guava and passionfruit flavors laced with a nice mineral edge.  The ripe, juicy fruit flavors persist all through a lingering, expressive finish.

San Polo 2012 Rubio Toscana Rosso (Tuscany, Italy)    $15.99 Rubio is composed primarily of Sangiovese, with small additions of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for added depth and complexity. Aged one year in oak casks followed by extended aging in bottle, it offers a classic Tuscan character of black cherries and plums with earthy spice tones.

Match Book 2012 Tinto Rey (Dunnigan Hills)    $10.99 Tempranillo is the base of this Mediterranean-style blend. Rich aromas of blueberry, cherry and cedar greet the nose, and flavors of ripe boysenberry and raspberry mix with notes of chocolate truffles and toast.

Elderton 2014 Shiraz-Cabernet (Barossa Valley, Australia)    $17.99 This 76% Shiraz / 24% Cabernet Sauvignon Barossa Valley blend offers a spicy nose of cloves, vanilla and cinnamon with a baked blueberry core.  On the palate, juicy plum, dark cherry, cassis and vanilla flavors are nicely framed with velvety tannins before a lengthy finish.

Finca Villacreces 2014 Pruno (Ribera del Duero, Spain)    $19.99 Located right beside the famed Vega Sicilia, Finca Villacreces has become known for powerful, age-worthy reds.  Pruno, the estate’s young-vine cuvee, is a blend of 90% Tempranillo with 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.  Designed for early consumption, it’s an easy-drinking, fruity red.

Truchard 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)    $34.99 This Napa Cabernet opens with aromas of raspberry, dark cherry and cassis, with hints of cedar and vanilla.  The palate is layered with flavors of dark plums, red currants and berry jam.  Firm tannins frame a lengthy finish of spice and red fruit.

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:

Il Marroneto 2012 Brunello di Montalcino (Tuscany, Italy)    $79.99 This is a classically styled Brunello from one of Montalcino’s most respected producers. The bouquet is luscious and intense, with complex hints of oak toast, cinnamon, cherry, raspberry and dried oregano.  It’s concentrated and ultra-smooth on the palate, with deep dark berry and plum fruit supported by velvety tannins.

St. Clement 2010 Merlot (Napa Valley)    $21.99 This elegant, well-structured Napa Merlot exudes enticing aromas of currant and dried herbs on the nose.  The palate offers rich, lasting flavors of plum and black cherry, edged by complex notes of cedar, leather and toasty oak that are framed by polished tannins.

Jermann 2016 Pinot Grigio (Venezia Giulia, Italy)    $24.99 Silvio Jermann is known for crafting some of Italy’s finest white wines in this cool, mountainous region close to Austria.  This Pinot Grigio displays fine purity and depth of flavor coupled with a complex, intriguing mineral character, all in a perfect balance.

Cheers!
