Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

As we continue on into Fall, it strikes me that we haven’t hosted a Saturday Afternoon Beer Tasting in way too long.  Now that Oktoberfest is nearly upon us, this coming Saturday, September 26th seems like a great time to invite everyone to sample some great craft and import brews at the Wine Cellar.  So plan on it, noon to 5PM as always, and just $5.00 to taste our selection of new as well as “old favorite” beers.  Hope you can make it, and don’t forget there are always great wines from around the world to sample all week at the Cellar!

THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING:

Merryvale 2012 Starmont Chardonnay (Napa Valley)    $19.99
This is fresh and vibrant Chardonnay, offering a full-bodied mix of tangerine, lime, nectarine and pear flavors that are complex, layered and cleansing. The wine has enough creamy oak to add a satisfying touch of richness, but the emphasis is on a focused and pure core of ripe orchard fruits.

Lincourt 2013 Lindsay’s Vineyard Pinot Noir (Santa Rita Hills)    $23.99
Lincourt‘s Estate Pinot Noir is from a hilly, cool-climate site near the Pacific Ocean, a perfect place to grow Pinot.  This wine offers a juicy palate of black cherry and raspberry fruit edged with hints of spice, herbs, earthy cedar and sweet tobacco leaf.

Domaine Lafage 2013 Tessellae Vieilles Vignes (Côtes Catalanes, France)    $14.99
This wine is made from Carignan grapes sourced from 70 year-old vines growing in the Côtes Catalanes region very close to the Spanish border.  It’s fermented in concrete tanks and neutral oak to preserve the natural purity and complexity of the fruit obtained from such old vines.

Four Vines 2011 Truant Old Vine Zinfandel    $12.99
Four Vines 2011 Truant Old Vine Zinfandel is 90% Zinfandel, 7% Barbera and 3% Petite Sirah sourced from Lodi, Paso Robles and Mendocino County.  It’s lush and juicy in the mouth, with ripe, brambly wild berry flavors edged with pepper and spice notes.

Hearst Ranch Winery 2012 Three Sisters Cuvée (Paso Robles)    $21.99
This Paso blend of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre offers plentiful aromas of strawberry and toffee, along with subtle floral and pepper-spice notes.  The flavor profile displays ripe dark cherry, strawberry and toasty vanilla flavors supported by refreshing acidity.

Stonestreet 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon (Alexander Valley)    $34.99
Sourced from Stonestreet’s Monument Ridge Vineyard, this offers aromas and flavors of dried blackberry leaves, juniper, cardamom, wild red berries, black pepper and wet, black slate.  The mouthfeel is defined by firm, structured tannins with a distinct concentration, a swirl of dark chocolate and a subtle sagebrush note typical of this vineyard.

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:

Hess Collection 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, Allomi Vineyard (Napa Valley)    $26.99
The Allomi Vineyard lies nearly 1,000 feet above the Napa Valley floor.  This opens with scents of ripe plum and currant, with exotic accents of licorice and cedar.  The flavors are vivid and pure, with juicy dark berry and plum fruit. Beautifully polished tannins carry it to a rich and lingering finish.

Hess Collection 2013 Chardonnay, Sus’kol Vineyard (Napa Valley)    $19.99
The 175 acre Su’skol Vineyard is planted with nine distinct clones of Chardonnay, in order to produce fruit with wonderful acidity and precise balance. Crisp and clean, and yet still deliciously rich, this minimally oaked wine opens with a lush honeysuckle note and offers pure flavors of apples, pears and tropical fruit.

Celler de Capçanes 2011 Costers del Gravet (Montsant, Spain)    $19.99
Costers del Gravet is a rich and full-bodied wine, with characteristic red raspberry and black fruit flavors of the local Garnacha and Samsó grapes.  50% Cabernet Sauvignon contributes structure and elegance, enhanced by aging for 12 months in French oak.

Anchor Steam Brewing California Lager (San Francisco)    $4.99
Made with 2-row California barley, Cluster hops and our own lager yeast, this all-malt brew has a golden color, distinctive aroma, creamy head, balanced depth of flavor and a smooth finish.  Anchor’s California Lager is a delicious example of lager at its finest.

Cheers!
