1/04/2021 Newsletter
Greetings from the Wine Cellar:
The New Year is upon us. The Old Town Wine Cellar is hoping for a better 2021 for everyone. As always, we have lots of new wine and beer arrivals to check out, and of course our weekly selection of wines to sample or enjoy by the glass. So best wishes to everyone for this new year, and we hope to see you soon!
FEATURED WINES THIS WEEK
Bodegas Garzon 2018 Albariño Reserva (Maldonado, Uruguay) $15.99
This Albariño is fuller and richer than most Spanish version of the grape, with a nose of peach and apricot along with light floral notes. It has a fresh, fruity mouthfeel with a pleasant mineral edge, rounded off with mouthwatering acidity and a tangy finish.
Pali 2017 Riviera Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) $19.99
The 2017 Pali Riviera Pinot has a bright bouquet of plum, fresh raspberries, wild blackberry, lavender and cinnamon. On the palate, the wine is rich and redolent of black fruits, with fresh dark raspberry, black pepper and a backdrop of mineral accents.
Frescobaldi 2018 Pian di Remolè (Tuscany, Italy) $11.99
Remolè is a blend of 85% Sangiovese and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine opens with fragrant scents of red and black fruits, lifted by spicy impressions of black pepper and licorice. The entry is velvety and warm and the flavors on the palate are well balanced, with a satisfying vein of acidity.
Terra d’Oro 2016 Barbera (Amador County) $17.99
The Barbera grape, native to northern Italy’s Piedmont region, thrives in Amador County. This is a fruity and medium-bodied red full of the classic Barbera character of ripe black cherries, blackberries and currants, edged with a pleasant touch of savory spice.
Frog’s Leap 2018 Zinfandel (Napa Valley) $32.99
Frog’s Leap 2018 Zinfandel is one for the ages. It’s a wine that draws its power from sophistication instead of simply its alcohol content, crafted in a classic “field blend” style with additions of Petite Sirah and Carignane. It offers tremendous aromatic intensity, alongside rich and polished flavors.
NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS
Marchesi di Barolo 2017 Sbirolo Langhe Nebbiolo (Piedmont, Italy) $22.99
A beautiful light garnet in color, the scents of ripe red cherries and cranberries awaken the senses with undertones of earth, smoke and spices lurking beneath the surface. Firm but delicate tannins and a light body make this a wine with fine structure and plenty of finesse.
Marques de Riscal 2014 Rioja Reserva (Rioja, Spain) $19.99
The Riscal Rioja Reserva is deep ruby in the glass, offering a nose of ripe cherries and violets with hints of spice and vanilla. Rich dark fruit flavors and exotic touches of leather and cedar predominate on the palate, perfectly framed by firm tannins.
1,000 Stories 2018 Chardonnay Bourbon Barrel Aged (Mendocino County) $15.99
This 1,000 Stories Chard is in the classic California style: full-bodied, richly textured and loaded with ripe fruit. Flavors of pear, pineapple and peach emerge on the lush palate, framed with baked-apple richness. Partial Bourbon barrel aging weaves a complex vein of dried herbs and cedar in the glass, ending with a long, vanilla-caramel finish.
Julius Echter Hefe-Weissbier (Würzburg, Germany) $4.99
This pale German hefeweizen displays a rich lingering head foam a honey-hued body and the subtle aroma of banana and clove. The spicy flavors are enhanced by a silky mouth-feel obtained through the use of wheat in the brewing. The lingering finish is crisp, yet mellows pleasantly.
Cheers!
