FEATURED WINES THIS WEEK
Poema Brut Cava (Penedès, Spain) $14.99
A true Brut-style Cava, Poema is made from the native grape varietals Macabeo, Xarel-lo and Parellada. Vibrant aromas of ripe peach, Granny Smith apple and toasted bread plus a touch of spice fill the nose. The palate is fully dry, with a rich, creamy texture. Layers of flavor and spice persist through an elegant finish.
Banshee 2021 Pinot Noir (Sonoma County) $21.99
The fruit for the Banshee Pinot is sourced from the Sonoma Coast & Russian River Valley appellations. The wine opens with an alluring bouquet of cherry, mint, dried flowers and spice. It’s a silky smooth and medium-bodied Pinot on the palate, with good acidity and a subtle oak influence.
Montecillo 2017 Rioja Crianza (Rioja, Spain) $14.99
The Montecillo Crianza is a great example of a “basic” Rioja, from one of the region’s oldest and most renowned producers. The wine opens with scents of ripe berries and vanilla. The palate is spicy yet plush, with dark cherry and plum fruit, supple tannins and a nice measure of toast on the finish.
Cline Cellars 2019 Ancient Vines Carignane (Contra Costa County) $17.99
This Carignane is sourced from vines up to 100 years old. Exotic aromas of plum, mocha, boysenberry, cedar, and cinnamon mingle on the nose, and flavors of black cherry, plum, dark chocolate and espresso come through on the palate. The finish is long and chewy.
Piatelli 2019 Trinita Grand Reserve (Mendoza, Argentina) $27.99
Trinita is a blend of 76% Malbec, 11% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine exudes an aromatic bouquet of black plums and raspberries, along with hints of coffee and spice. On the palate, juicy raspberry and black currant flavors mix on a finish that lingers with a smoky richness.
NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS
Josh Cellars 2020 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Paso Robles) $21.99
In central California’s Paso Robles region, cool morning fogs and intense midday sun produce richly textured, well-balanced reds. Aromas of ripe fruits are backed by subtle notes of black peppercorn. On the palate, this wine offers flavors of raspberry, black cherry and cedar, with structured tannins.
Tenuta Polvaro 2020 Pinot Grigio (Venezia, Italy) $16.99
Tenuta Polvaro is located northeast of Venice, close by the Adriatic Sea. In this warmer micro-climate, grapes grown on the estate attain a richness rarely found in Italian Pinot Grigios. This exhibits citrus and floral scents on the nose and bright flavors of green apple and Bartlett pear on the palate, with a delightfully long finish.
Saracina Vineyards 2019 Old Soul Red (Mendocino County) $27.99
Old Soul Red is a classic field blend of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Carignan and Malbec grapes. A savory bouquet of fresh herbs and blackberry cobbler greets the nose. The palate is rich and dense, with ripe tannins wrapped around a core of blue and black fruits that linger beautifully on a long, toasty finish.
Wren House Brewing Prairie Ghost Altbier (Phoenix) $4.99
Prairie Ghost was brewed using a German malt recipe to give a pleasing copper color and lightly toasty, mild chocolate and subtle dark fruit essence. German Tettnang & Hallertau Mittelfrüh hops lend a pleasant bitterness, along with a bright floral bouquet peeking through a solid and notably malty backbone.
Cheers!
