Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

October is starting off nicely here in Historic Downtown Yuma. First off, First Friday is this week, when many downtown businesses stay open for a few extra hours on the first Friday of each month to incentivize folks to come down for the evening. Not to mention that the weather is getting a lot nicer as we go deeper into Fall in Yuma…

And, this Saturday, October 8th, downtown will host the 2022 Tacos & Tunes Block Party on the Main Street Plaza from 10AM to 9PM. This combined salute to Mexican music and Yuma’s favorite food (tacos, of course) will be an all-day celebration. Continuous live entertainment, a car show, yard games, cold beer and naturally, LOTS of tacos. Grab a bite at one of the many food vendors or restaurants, stop by the Kidz Zone with your niños, and visit some of our many downtown shops, including of course the Wine Cellar. Hope you can make it!

FEATURED WINES THIS WEEK

Bravium 2020 Chardonnay (Russian River Valley) $24.99

Bright floral and golden apple aromas lead into pure melon, peach and lively citrus flavors complemented by hints of toast and mineral. Rich and full-bodied, yet very elegant and finely structured, this has a clean, refreshing finish, highlighted by notes of spiced apple and vanilla.

Pertinace 2016 Barbera d’Alba (Piedmont, Italy) $17.99

This opens with brightly perfumed aromas of ripe strawberries and dried flowers. On the palate, it’s elegant and balanced, with a layered profile of spice, leather, licorice and black fruit flavors, silky tannins and a chocolate, coffee and raspberry aftertaste.

Chronic Cellars 2019 Sir Real Cabernet (Paso Robles) $14.99

The most gallant Cabernet Sauvignon in all the land, Sir Real shows striking layers of black fruit with a sliver of toasted spice. Unflinching notes of dark plum and bright cassis lead the way to a rich backbone of smooth tannins that support the ripe fruit flavors.

Kuleto Estate 2016 India Ink (Lake County/Napa Valley) $22.99

A mixture of Petite Sirah, Zinfandel and Merlot, this wine is made for pure indulgence. India Ink is richly flavored and hedonistic. On the nose, lush scents of ripe red fruits and spice are framed with hints of smoke and earth. Vivid black fruit flavors on the palate are complemented by hints of black pepper, cedar and dark chocolate.

Marques de Murrieta 2016 Rioja Reserva (Rioja, Spain) $27.99

On the nose, this Reserva offers exotic aromas of vanilla, cloves and cinnamon. The smooth and velvety palate exhibits abundant dark cherry and black plum fruit flavors, with exotic accents of fresh earth, tobacco and Indian spice that carry to the finish.

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS

Belle Glos 2020 Pinot Noir, Clark & Telephone Vineyard (Santa Maria Valley) $44.99

This starts with an intense nose of raspberry jam, black currants, spice and vanilla. Rich flavors of fresh raspberries and blackberries give an exotic spicy quality, and the refined tannins impart a soft, silky texture. The fruit-laden, juicy finish just seems to go on forever…

Regaleali 2018 Nero d’Avola (Sicily, Italy) $15.99

Made with 100% Nero d’Avola, a native Sicilian varietal, this wine offers a bright nose redolent of red currant, blackberry, licorice and Asian spice. A firm, savory palate delivers a mouthful of juicy dark cherry and berry fruit with solid tannins.

Shipyard Brewing Smashed Blueberry Ale (Portland, Maine) $5.99

Shipyard’s Smashed Blueberry is a hybrid between a Porter and a Scotch Ale. It has a rich mouthfeel and a full, complex body. Up front, there are notes of coffee and dark chocolate, accentuated by the aroma of blueberries. The finish shows a delicate interplay of sweet fruit and bitter hops

Cheers!
