Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

News Flash: the Old Town Wine Cellar will resume our wine-tasting and wine-by-the-glass program effective this Tuesday, October 20th. In accordance with the Arizona Dept. of Health Services requirements, the Wine Cellar will implement and require all patrons to comply with published AZDHS guidelines and restrictions associated with reducing community spread of the COVID-19 virus. Just as we had done before the latest government-mandated shutdown, we will have cheese plates available for purchase here in the Cellar, and dine-in options will be available in the form of take-out from the full menus of our neighboring downtown restaurants The Pint House, Holy Smokes Barbecue and DaBoyz Italian Restaurant. Lots of folks have told me over the last several months that they really missed coming to the Wine Cellar for a wine tasting or a glass of wine, and believe me, I missed it too! So please stop by when you can and enjoy some great wine again – we will be serving during all open hours, Tuesday through Friday 11AM to 7PM and Saturday 10AM to 6PM. Hope to see you soon!

FEATURED WINES THIS WEEK

Rocca Delle Macie 2018 Maccione Vermentino (Tuscany, Italy) $14.99

Vermentino is a native Italian grape varietal that makes a great alternative to the ubiquitous Pinot Grigio. Rocca Delle Macie’s Maccione has a fine measure of complexity, offering a delicious mix of tangy citrus, green apple and pineapple flavors edged with hints of ginger and hazelnuts.

Acacia 2017 Chardonnay (Carneros) $20.99

Citrus-laced flavors of baked apple, d’Anjou pear and white nectarine are punctuated by Meyer lemon zest, toasty oak, ginger spice and crème-brulée. This Chardonnay’s silky texture and bright, balanced acidity make it a perfect partner with rich seafood cuisine.

Santa Martina 2016 Rosso di Toscana (Tuscany, Italy) $12.99

This is a blend of Sangiovese from the Chianti Classico region, along with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah sourced from Maremma on the Tuscan coastline. It offers crushed red cherry aromas and flavors with a pleasant underlying earthiness. Tangy acidity balances a juicy, fruit-filled palate.

Dave Phinney Locations California Red $19.99

Dave Phinney’s Locations is a blend of fruit sourced from diverse California regions, including Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Sierra Foothills. It’s made from Tempranillo, Barbera, Petite Sirah, Syrah and Grenache grapes. The wine is loaded with intensely ripe berry fruit along with pepper and herbal notes and a light touch of toasty oak – savory, luscious and opulent.

Mollydooker 2018 The Boxer Shiraz (South Australia) $31.99

The Boxer is a rich and complex Shiraz, with a fine mix of sweet, ripe fruit and powerful tannins. It delivers an effusive mouthful of raspberry, plum and pepper-spice flavors that are vivid and lingering. But the density on the palate doesn’t get in the way of all the fruit and spice, and the finish just keeps on going…

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:

RoseRock 2017 Pinot Noir (Eola-Amity Hills, Oregon) $32.99

A project of Oregon’s acclaimed Domaine Drouhin Winery, the RoseRock Eola-Amity Hills Pinot is robust by Oregon standards. It’s a deeply colored and velvet-textured wine, filled with vivid black cherry fruit enlivened with subtle spices accents. The lengthy finish is satisfying and memorable.

Santi 2019 Infinito Rosé (Veneto, Italy) $14.99

The Infinito Rosé opens with a floral nose, along with hints of ripe pear, subtle spices and a touch of savory herbs. In the mouth, it’s fresh, balanced and vibrant, displaying streamlined acidity with a pleasant degree of salinity. The finish is bracingly dry and mouthwatering, begging for another sip…

Weltenburger-Kloster Barock-Hell Lager (Bavaria, Germany) $4.99

Weltenburger-Kloster is the world’s oldest Monastic brewery. Their Barock Hell is a refreshingly clean, crisp lager. Bready and malty tones give this beer a soft, toasty quality. Notes of amber honey, dried fruit, fresh herbs and a nice hoppy bitterness combine for a striking intensity of flavor enjoyment.

Cheers!
