This week our Featured Wines are all from DAOU Vineyards, with several of their varietals available for your tasting pleasure, including a couple of really great wines available as a Coravin^® by the glass pour. On Friday, we will also have a special guest here representing DAOU and they are bringing a few additional DAOU wines for your sampling pleasure. Hope you can join us for this special tasting week.

DAOU Vineyards 2020 Bodyguard Chardonnay (Paso Robles, California) $36.99
The 2020 Bodyguard Chardonnay is a wine of uncommon opulence that offers fragrant aromas of golden apple, buttered toast, honey and lilac. Subtle notes of Bartlett pear, star fruit, hibiscus and nutmeg round out the elegant, floral bouquet. The texture is smooth and silky, cascading across the palate with enticing flavors of spiced pear, Granny Smith apple, golden kiwi and honeysuckle. Secondary layers reveal nuances of white peach and toasty oak, hazelnut, honeydew melon and citrus zest. A crisp, clean finish shows remarkable length with lingering notes of lemon curd and pineapple.

DAOU Vineyards 2021 Rosé (Paso Robles, California) $19.99
DAOU Rosé presents scintillating aromas of fresh strawberry, guava, crème brûlée and honeysuckle. Subtle hyacinth and ginger notes are accompanied by cranberry, rhubarb, cherry blossom and lemon meringue. The palate is exquisitely balanced, displaying a lush, crisp juiciness with flavors of ripe strawberry, papaya, nectarine and mandarin orange. Hints of spiced peach, mango and watermelon are complemented by red delicious apple, kiwi, apricot and honeydew melon, all cascading into a clean, refreshing finish.

DAOU Vineyards 2020 The Pessimist (Paso Robles, California) $21.99
The 2020 Pessimist presents intense aromas of blueberry, cherry, plum and strawberry with undercurrents of lavender and kirsch. The nose evolves with layers of warm leather, truffle, pipe tobacco, black pepper and allspice. Rich and weighty on the palate, this wine delivers a no-holds-barred generosity of bold fruit flavors—boysenberry, blackberry, cassis and plum, underlain by notes of rhubarb, pomegranate and damp forest floor. Subtle hints of black olives, mushroom and tamarind spice concisely complement the balanced and well-rounded flavor profile. A persistent, elegant finish lingers with red cherry and cranberry tones highlighted by hints of dark chocolate.

DAOU Vineyards 2021 Bodyguard Red Blend (Paso Robles, California) $36.99
The 2021 Bodyguard is bold and brooding displaying a dark purple hue. Aromas of ripe black and blue fruits, berry jam, tobacco and maple syrup reveal trailing scents of pepper, campfire and chocolate-covered red fruit. The palate entry is big and broad, displaying rich flavors of freshly crushed berries, cured meat and spice. Concentrated dark fruit flavors extend into a sleek, lengthy finish. The wine’s boldness and rich flavors make it a great pairing with hearty meat dishes such as grilled steak or lamb chops. DAOU 2020 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Paso Robles, California) $59.99
Hailing from the exemplary 2020 vintage, this DAOU Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon presents classic aromas of Oregon blackberry, Zante currant and cherry pipe tobacco anticipate subtle notes of cranberry, baking spice, licorice, slate and dark chocolate. The palate is voluptuous and velvety with a firm underlying structure. Lavish flavors of blueberry, black raspberry, wild cherry and cassis are beautifully integrated with hints of truffle, dried herbs and forest floor. A smooth, persistent finish lingers with impressions of sweet cherry, black plum and mushroom. ($18 by the glass)

DAOU Vineyards 2020 Reserve Seventeen Forty (Paso Robles, California) $75.99/bottle
Inspired by the classics of Saint-Émilion, the 2020 DAOU Reserve Seventeen Forty is a Cabernet Franc driven wine with a harmonious complement of Merlot. Beguiling aromas of blackberry cobbler, raspberry, crème de cassis and cherry pipe tobacco anticipate hints of toasty oak, black licorice and pencil shaving. Lush and full bodied, this wine bestows rich flavors of cherry, black plum, dark chocolate and blueberry compote with lovely accents of Zante currant, graphite and cinnamon. Solid structure and fine-grained tannins support a lengthy, focused finish, leaving notes of plum and boysenberry underscored by cocoa and black truffle.

DAOU Vineyards 2020 Estate Soul of the Lion (Paso Robles, California) $172.99/bottle
The 2020 vintage presents an alluring profusion of black cherry, mulberry and Oregon blackberry aromas with notes of leather, cigar box and dark chocolate. Hints of desert sage and crème de menthe accent the rich fruit. The palate is silky and voluptuous, delivering loads of currant, cassis, black raspberry and ripe cherry. Notes of fig and baking spice are underscored by earthy tones of dates and truffle. Mature, ripe tannins yield a weighty, velvety texture integrated with a limestone minerality and subtle oak. A lengthy finish leaves lingering impressions of blackberry, plum and espresso with a touch of white pepper. A wine of immense staying power that will evolve favorably for many years to come.

NEW ARRIVALS
Rombauer Vineyards 2020 Zinfandel (Napa Valley, California) $41.99
This wine bursts with bright fruit aromas of cherry and red plum, with notes of vanilla, holiday spices, and lavender all jumping out on the nose. Plum flavors continue to the palate, joined by layers of raspberry jam, mocha, clove, and white pepper. The mid-palate is soft and creamy, framed by fine tannins and ending with a long, lush finish that will leave you wanting another sip.
Orin Swift 2022 Blank Stare Sauvignon Blanc (Sonoma County, California) $36.99
Orin Swift Blank Stare Sauvignon Blanc is pale yellow with a chartreuse tint, the wine opens with bright aromatics of lime zest, lemon, green apple and a touch of honey. This white wine is refreshing with ripe pineapple and grapefruit, framed by satiating acidity. A mid-palate of white peach and a hint of pith melds seamlessly into a long, The finish is energetic is bright and youthful with a slight Meyer lemon rind closing out the wine.
Wren House Brewing Horse Sense IPA (Arizona) $5.99
A fun favorite from Wren House, this 2023 variant is brewed on its familiar blend of base malts, changing it up from our usual base malt. Additions of @grainrandd White Sonora Wheat, bringing a fuller body to this easy-drinking IPA. Mosaic and Waimea this year giving huge fresh squeezed orange and key lime flavors throughout.
