Greetings from the Wine Cellar:
We have several new arrivals in our selection of Featured Wines this week and are excited to share them with you. The Old Town Wine Cellar also has some favorites from previous tastings back in stock, like the Villa Wolf Gewurztraminer that flew off the rack a couple of weeks ago. It will go fast so be sure to come get some while it lasts and try this this week’s Featured Wines.

Labouré-Roi Macon Villages 2023 (Burgundy, France) $22.99/Bottle New Arrival
Pale gold with green highlights, brilliant and limpid with loral and fruity aromas and hints of lemon, mint and honeysuckle. Exotic and spicy aromas. A balanced palate, with herbaceous and floral overtones. This wine is light, charming and fresh. It seduces with its spontaneity and tenderness. Perfect with fried smelt tapas, poultry and white meats, snails, grilled tofu, bouchées à la reine, grilled cutlets, white pudding, andouillettes, red peppers in vinaigrette and cheeses (dried goat’s cheese, Bleu de Bresse).

La Posta Pizzella Malbec 2022 (Mendoza, Argentina) $17.99/Bottle New Arrival
A beautiful red and purple color with aromas of black cherries, dark fruits, dark chocolate and baker’s spice. On the palate, the wine shows dense, dark berry and plum flavors along with hints of sandalwood and spice, and even a hint of violets in the finish. This is a full-bodied and well-structured wine that is incredibly full of life and born to be enjoyed with food and friends.

Ancient Peaks Renegade Red Blend 2017 (Paso Robles, California) $19.99/Bottle New Arrival
Big, bold and versatile, Renegade is a gutsy Paso Robles blend marrying the unlikely bedfellows of Syrah, Malbec and Zinfandel. Dark with brooding black fruit, this is earth-driven showcasing an herbal and somewhat meaty character while sporting intense aromas and a full-body alongside black pepper and toasty oak notes through the powerful, persistent finish.

J. Lohr Pure Paso Proprietary Red 2021 (Paso Robles, California) $26.99/Bottle
Savory varietal notes of Cabernet Sauvignon are layered with the overt dark fruit character of Petite Sirah. The bouquet of cocoa powder, caramel, and anise works in harmony with the black cherry fruit signature of this wine. Bright and focused on the palate with a firm and appetizing finish.

Tommasi Valpolicella Ripasso 2020 (Veneto, Italy) $31.99/Bottle Back in Stock
The 2020 Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso opens with a rich blend of autumnal spices and dried black cherries, complemented by a dusting of cocoa. This smooths over the palate with glycerol textures and ultra-ripe wild berry fruits, contrasted by a core of zesty acidity. It tapers off with tremendous length and potency, leaving a staining of primary concentration and a coating of sweet tannins that frame the experience well, without slowing its momentum.

Mollydooker The Maître D’ Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 (McClaren Vale, Australia) $31.99/Bottle
The 2022 Maître D’ Cabernet is a wine with deep red and purple hues and a rich aroma. It’s complex and flavourful, with cherry and blackberry notes transitioning into hints of liquorice, cigar box, and mocha, all while maintaining fruit sweetness. This Cabernet is a well-balanced delight.

Concha Y Toro Don Melchor Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 (Maipo Valley, Chile) $156.99/Bottle
Deep violet in color, intense, and with a great aromatic complexity of red fruits together with floral notes of violets and roses. On the palate, it is a tasty wine with a soft spell and a superb freshness, along with the elegance and power so characteristic of Puente Alto. The Ink Grade Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon opens with aromas of fresh cassis, pomegranate, and cocoa with elements of thyme, mint, candied orange peels, nutmeg, cloves, and paprika. Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 (Alexander Valley, California) $104.99/Bottle
The 2019 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has notes of red cherry, raspberry, blackberry, iris, vanilla, and clove. Ruby in color, this elegant wine has great acidity and lift on the mid-palate. Black currant and warm baking spices linger with a deep and fruity finish. JUSTIN Isosceles 2019 (Paso Robles, California) $89.99/Bottle
Aromatic notes of ripe blackberry, juicy black plum, and cassis with dried violet, leather, vanilla bean, fresh herbs, camphor, and toasted oak. Full-bodied with baked black cherry pie, fresh mission fig, and black currant on the entry. The midpalate of new leather, fresh wild sage, porcini mushroom, dried black olive, and cedar is carried by balanced freshness and abundant velvety tannins that lead to a long, complex finish of sustained fresh berries, camphor, oak, toasted cinnamon stick, star anise, and dried flowers. 94 – Wine Enthusiast, 94 – Vinious, 92 – James Suckling.

DAOU Vineyards Reserve Seventeen Forty 2021 (Paso Robles, California) $79.99/Bottle
Inspired by the classics of Saint-Émilion, DAOU Reserve Seventeen Forty is a Cabernet Franc-driven wine with a harmonious complement of Merlot. An opaque ruby-purple hue sets a tone of depth and concentration. Enchanting aromas of violets, blueberry, dried sage and bay leaf reveal underlying earthen notes of truffle, woodsmoke and charcuterie. The palate entry is juicy and powerful, flooding the mouth with layers of black currant, chocolate, cigar box and toasty oak. NEW ARRIVALS
Orin Swift Mercury Head Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 (Napa Valley, California) $192.99/Bottle
The 2022 Mercury Head sits in the glass with an opaque garnet core and a dark cardinal rim as tinges of purple shimmer from within. The nose is chock-full of aromatics—blue fruits, blackcurrant, licorice, baking spices, lavender and crushed gravel. Paired with a flooding palate with tremendous yet balanced weight, notes of blackberry, dark chocolate, espresso bean and blue and black fruits reverberate. A blueberry reduction coupled with chalky tannins leads to a long finish with hints of Herbs de Provence.
Casanova di Neri Giovanni Neri Rosso di Montalcino 2021 (Tuscany, Italy) $74.99/Bottle
Intense and young red. On the nose it is intriguing and sensual, with notes of dark red fruit, in particular cherry and blueberries. In the mouth it is round and generous, predominant characteristics of the 2021 vintage. The tannins are soft and velvety. The persistent and balanced finish suggests a future in the making for this wine.
Henschke Henry’s Seven 2022 (Barossa, Australia) $52.99/Bottle
This Rhone style red blend of Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro and Viognier offering up heady dark cherry, white pepper and apricot aromas against a subtle meaty backdrop. Beautifully vibrant, it delivers juicy, fleshy fruit flavors with an attractive chalky tannic frame. The length and balance are very impressive over a seamless finish for a gorgeous wine.
