Greetings from the Wine Cellar:
Fort Yuma Rotary Club is putting on their annual Penitentiary Pint Fest at the Yuma Territorial Prison State Historic Park here in Historic Downtown this coming Saturday, November 5th. The Penitentiary Pint Fest goes from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, with a great selection of craft brews from a number of breweries, plus food and live music by Side Hustle Band. Tickets are $55; a quick search on the internet will get you to the site to purchase yours ahead of time. The weather should be beautiful, the site is really nice and the beer will be great, so put this one on your calendar for sure.
And remember, this Friday November 4^th will be First Friday here in Downtown Yuma, with many businesses remaining open at least until 8PM, and the Wine Cellar of course among them. We hope to see you!
FEATURED WINES THIS WEEK
Jadix 2020 Picpoul de Pinet (Languedoc, France) $14.99
This wine, made entirely from the Picpoul varietal native to southern France, has a golden hue with shimmering flashes. An intense, complex nose has scents of ripe fruit, citrus peel, honey and white flowers. It has a rich yet elegant feel on the palate, with a crisp freshness.
Schug 2019 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) $19.99
This Pinot opens with fragrant scents of dark cherry, ripe strawberries, Indian spices and a subtle saline note. In the mouth, flavors of black cherries, black raspberry, spice and vanilla-laced oak are framed with smooth, silky tannins.
Hacienda de Arínzano 2016 Tempranillo (Pago de Arínzano, Spain) $17.99
Made from 100% Tempranillo grapes, this wine leads with aromas of fresh plum and blackberry, and then follows with a nicely smooth and full-bodied palate of ripe berry fruit accented by hints of plum and licorice, wrapped in a firm but supple tannic frame.
Poggio al Tesoro 2020 Mediterra (Tuscany, Italy) $22.99
From the Bolgheri region on the Tuscan coast, Mediterra is a blend of Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s intensely fragrant on the nose with wild berry, plum and cherry scents, plus hints of spice and herbs. On the palate it’s fresh, intense and elegant.
My Favorite Neighbor 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon (San Luis Obispo County) $44.99
This Cab offers a complex nose of cherry, currant and raspberry along with fresh herbs, violets and a hint of toast. Lavish, generous flavors of black cherry, plum and fig compote are accented with hints of coffee bean and crème brulée. The finish comes amidst a swirl of silky tannins.
NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS
The Prisoner Wine Co. 2019 Saldo Red Blend (California) $29.99
A meticulously crafted blend of Petite Sirah, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel from premier Northern California vineyards, this wine is approachable yet serious, bold and memorable. The palate is loaded with wild berry, plum and black cherry fruit, with intriguing spice notes and plenty of depth.
Angeline 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon (California) $12.99
Softly textured, rich in flavor and moderate in tannins, this is a supple and full-bodied Cabernet with generous flavors of berries, cedar, green olives and dark chocolate. A light degree of toast from oak aging gives additional complexity to a polished finish.
Fate Brewing Candy Bar Milk Stout (Scottsdale) $5.99
This is Fate Brewing’s annual release of its famous Candy Bar milk stout, brewed with honey roasted peanuts, cacao nibs, vanilla bean and a bit of sea salt. One of the best beers in AZ, especially if you love stouts!
