Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

Looks like it’s time again for another of our occasional Saturday Afternoon Beer Tastings at the Old Town Wine Cellar.  So this Saturday afternoon, October 21st, plan on stopping by the Cellar to sample the usual diverse selection of American craft beers and interesting imports.  It’s definitely starting to cool off around here lately, so we’ll include some great “cool-weather” brews in the line-up.  Hope you can make it Saturday!

THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING:

Napa Cellars 2014 Chardonnay (Napa Valley)    $18.99 This Chardonnay displays classic Napa characteristics, opening with aromas of vanilla, caramel, honeydew melon and a hint of apple crisp.  Flavors of Meyer lemon, baked pear and toasted coconut are reminiscent of marshmallows roasting over a campfire.  The wine’s mouthfeel exhibits soft, balanced acidity with a creamy finish.

Talbott Vineyards 2014 Kali Hart Pinot Noir (Monterey County)    $22.99 Kali Hart is made from a careful selection of estate fruit from Talbott’s famed Sleepy Hollow Vineyard, in Monterey County’s cool Santa Lucia Highlands region.  This offers rich and fresh flavors of black cherry and raspberry fruit, plus a touch of minerality.

Delas 2015 Côtes du Rhône Saint-Esprit (Rhone Valley, France)   $12.99 Saint-Esprit is made with primarily Grenache grapes sourced from a small village in the southern Rhone. Then the wine is aged for three months in select Bourbon barrels, adding intriguing nuances of vanilla and brown sugar.

Allegrini 2013 Palazzo Della Torre (Veneto, Italy)    $19.99 This savory northern Italian red is crafted in an innovative fashion with some of the grapes dried prior to being crushed.  The result, similar in style to an Amarone, is a wine that with a full, rich and complex character.  A bouquet of floral notes, vanilla and black fruits is followed by ripe black cherry and plum fruit edged by subtle spice accents.

Frank Family 2013 Petite Sirah (Napa Valley)    $37.99 This has the deep, concentrated purple hue characteristic of Petite Sirah. Aromas of blackberries roasted with allspice, vanilla and black licorice lead to a wine that’s concentrated and powerful. Firm, enveloping tannins frame the luscious black fruit flavors and rich, textured finish.
