Greetings from the Wine Cellar:
This past Saturday I was really struck by how many folks were out and about downtown, strolling around and checking out all the venues we have to offer (including of course the Wine Cellar!) After such a long, hot summer, it really is a profound and welcome change. So I just want to encourage everyone to take the opportunity, especially now that the weather is so beautiful of late, to take some time to visit Historic Downtown Yuma. There are a lot of interesting things to see and do downtown, and some really nice shops to check out as well. Christmas is coming, after all. So please keep downtown in mind as the holiday season gets underway, and be sure to stop by the Wine Cellar when you come!
FEATURED WINES THIS WEEK
Stemmari 2016 Dalila Bianco Riserva (Sicily, Italy) $15.99
Blending the Sicilian varietal Grillo with the Viognier of France, this exudes the sunlight and richness of Sicily. Grillo brings intense, exotic tropical notes of mango intermingled with delicate notes of wildflowers and stone fruits. Viognier expresses delicate notes of peach and apricots, with a touch of honey.
Hartford Court 2018 Chardonnay (Russian River Valley) $24.99
This Sonoma Chardonnay is wonderfully vibrant, offering a full-bodied mix of tangerine, lime, nectarine and pear flavors that are intense, complex, layered and cleansing. The wine has enough creamy oak to add a satisfying touch of richness, but the emphasis is on a focused and pure core of ripe orchard fruits.
Stemmari 2015 Cantodoro Rosso Riserva (Sicily, Italy) $15.99
This blend of 80% Nero d’Avola, a native Sicilian varietal, and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon exudes a bright nose redolent of red currants, blackberry, licorice and baking spices. The firm, savory palate delivers a mouthful of juicy black cherry and wild berry flavors carried on velvety tannins.
Dominio Basconcillos 2015 Viña Magna 6 Meses (Ribera del Duero, Spain) $19.99
The Viña Magna is a vivid, deep crimson in the glass. The nose is initially dominated by new oak, with aromas of fresh blackberries and raspberries emerging after some time. The palate is nicely balanced, with moderate yet firm tannins framing the ripe berry flavors.
Justin 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon (Paso Robles) $27.99
Aromas of black cherry, currant and vanilla waft from the glass. A soft, delicate entry is woven into a plush palate that offers flavors of blueberry, cassis and a moderate touch of spice. Supple tannins with a touch of dark chocolate frame a satisfying finish.
NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS
Bernardus 2018 Pinot Noir (Santa Lucia Highlands) $27.99
The Santa Lucia Highlands is recognized as one of the premier Pinot Noir appellations in the world. This wine is a blend of grapes from specially selected SLH vineyards that express the bright berry flavors characteristic of cooler northern growing sites, combined with the plum and black cherry character typical of fruit sourced from the warmer southern locations.
Oliver Winery Camelot Honey Mead (Indiana) $12.99
Camelot Honey Mead is made from carefully sourced orange blossom honey fermented to near dryness, and then “reserve-sweetened” by adding some honey after the fermentation, giving it a delightfully clean, fresh and lightly sweet floral character. With well balanced acidity and sweetness, Camelot honey mead is superb as either a dessert wine or apéritif.
Chateau Ste. Michelle 2015 Canoe Ridge Estate Merlot (Horse Heaven Hills) $22.99
Chateau Ste. Michelle’s Canoe Ridge Estate Merlot consistently exhibits elegance, good concentration and fine tannins. Year 2015 – the warmest and earliest on record – added a layer of ripe and rich dark cherry fruit, with an opulent mouthfeel and superb structure.
Kloster Andechs Weissbier Dunkel (Bavaria, Germany ) $5.99
The Andechser Weissbier Dunkel teases the palate with a delicate tanginess carried by a round, soft body. A light caramel sweetness harmonizes beautifully with fine undertones of hoppy bitterness. A classic Bavarian dunkel, this concludes on a soft and refreshing note.
Cheers!
